Doc Savage and Conan

I recently watched the original Conan The Barbarian movie to see how well it held up since my first viewing.  While it certainly shows its age there's a few too many montage scenes, I had a a lot of fun revisiting it.  Arnold in his youth, James Earl Jones, giant snakes, swordfights and scantily clad women - it's no wonder my 13 year old self was drawn to this film.

  1. It's absolutely nothing to do with this cover, but in the last few days you had both Starman and Karen Starr, which got me thinking. How about an "All Star" cover: Darth Vader from Star Wars or Star Sapphire vs those two, Dawn Star, Red Star etc. Or for a more fun challenge, Starro the Conqueror vs. starfish characters from cartoons like Finding Nemo and SpongeBob Squarepants.

  2. Awesome cover--it's always great to see to classic pulp characters getting together.

  3. While I never followed these characters, in the 70s I always admired the cover art by these legendary artists, and Boris Vallejo's album covers were great. This cover is well put together and the story seems likely if they ever met.

  4. You must be about my age, Ross. I remember being drawn to those movies. My buddies and I were particularly drawn to the Red Sonja movie as well.

This cover today is a story that I would love to see take place.

  5. "What is best in life? To see your enemies driven before you, to hear the lamentation of their women and children …"

  7. P.S.---I always thought the Frank Frazetta cover paintings (for the Conan paperbacks of the 1970's) were creepier. Which is kind of fitting, seeing as how they were always advertised in the back pages of Warren's CREEPY.

  8. This would be awesome! I think Doc and Conan would end out at cross purposes because their approach is so different, but seeing them fight would be as great as seeing them work together.

The Doc Savage Sword of Conan!

  10. Doc Savage and the Shadow? I know you've done a lot already with the Shadow this year Ross, but I just read that Doc and Lamont Cranston both had the same publisher back in 1940. (Street and Smith) Here's hopin'.
