I never understood why in
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, the writers missed a perfect opportunity to include Bizarro. Imagine how much cooler the film would have been if Lex Luthor created Bizarro out of Superman's strand of hair instead of Mark Pillow's Nuclear Man! It's not like they didn't have the rights!
I'm guessing that they probably considered the ultimately edited-out Nuclear Man Mark I to have been bizarre enough.
ReplyDeletePerfect!

The makers of Superman movies have generally missed a lot of opportunities to include some of Supes' "other" iconic villains. Thus far I'm only aware of Luthor and Zod on the big screen, so we still have yet to see big-screen renditions of not only Bizarro but Brainiac, Metallo, Mxyzptlk, and others. I don't expect to see the Toyman or the Parasite, but even the Ultra-Humanite would be a welcome change.
ReplyDeleteThe art on this cover is, I think, of one of the more truly dangerous iterations of Bizarro #1, rather than the "mostly harmless klutz" I recall from the Silver Age. For this cover I'm not sure whether to call that a feature or a bug, but either way that's the only downside I can see here. Very well done, Ross!
This is one of those, "I thought you'd done that already!" covers! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteBizarro's a fun character. It's a shame that nobody is making an effort to bring classic villains to the big screen.
Hopefully, The Hulk will make it back to the big screen. I'm not familiar, but I really would wait on a Planet Hulk, or World War Hulk film...
Bizarro WAS in Superman IV, but they cut him out of the final edit. I think there's some footage in YouTube. The only other live-action Bizarro I'm aware of was the one in the Superboy TV series.
ReplyDeleteReno -- an IMDb search tells me that Bizarro did appear on "Smallville," in what appears to be a four-part story arc in 2008.
ReplyDeleteSee? Reno backs me up.---Anonymous #1.
ReplyDeleteI would read the hell out of this comic.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't wait for the sequel, where Hulk goes to Bizarro World!
