Killraven was one of those properties that I was aware of but never got around to checking out. I didn't really get that costume of his. I guess he wanted to protect his left shoulder, but wasn't as concerned with the rest of his torso? Also, thigh-high buccaneer boots seem like a pain to walk around in, let alone run in.
Perhaps Killraven could team up with his British cousin Apeslayer... ;)

DeleteKillraven was written by the great Don McGregor . i've reread the run of amazing adventures many times over the decades . it still holds up well . if you get the chance Ross , it's worth reading .

This is from Action Comics Annual 2. It was the second phase of the Exile storyline where Superman exiled himself from Earth. It introduced the device that would become the Eradicator. It was also the bases for the Justice League Unlimited episode you are referencing.

DeleteP.S.---for equally riveting takes on HGW's classic sci-fi novel, I would recommend "Superman: War of the Worlds" (DC Elseworlds, 1998) and, of course, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Volume 2 (tpb edition if you can find it).
ReplyDeleteThe boots can be surprisingly comfortable, if they fit well. I'm mostly with you on the shoulder armor, though; maybe he figures he can parry anything coming for his right shoulder, and the mid-torso isn't threatened enough to be worth the weight? (Or, at least, his costume designer does.)

DeleteThere was an 'imaginary story' published by DC pre-Crisis in which Kal-El arrived on Mars rather than Earth, and was raised by Martians of yet another kind (not as human-like in appearance as J'onn, even when he's in his "Gumby-esque" 'true form, IIRC... Maybe it a bit more like Reptile-men?). He was a member of the force that they sent to invade Earth, but I only saw a couple of pages somewhere or other so I don't know how the situation concluded...
