Even with the stones, the Avengers found a way to beat Thanos...but Hal had more will power than Sinestro could produce...so here, i'll go with Thanos. But the galaxy wouldn't be better off with either of them defeating the other. ? What do yo say Carycomic??
@DT: You're forgetting...Sinestro's power ring is fuelled by fear, not will...which could actually leave him even worse off, since it's hard to imagine Thanos being afraid of him.
I mean, Thanos has taken on the likes of Parallax Jordan (STF #2918), the Black Racer of New Genesis (STF #2963), and Mon-El (STF #3716)! The self-styled King of Korugar wouldn't stand a ghost of a chance.
Unless, of course, he was teamed up with Space Ghost.
If nothing else, it would make for an interesting sequel to STF #3578, with Sinestro having to swallow his pride and reluctantly ask for help from the superhero who evidently bested Darkseid of Apokolips @ STF #2728.
I think this could be one of those rare moments where Sinestro plays the hero. If I'm right, I think each of the two would walk away with a partial victory -- Thanos gets some of what he was after, but Sinestro stops him from doing serious damage.
Cary's idea of having Sinestro swallow his pride and ask for help against Thanos has potential, though.
Better still... what if Sinestro were to gather a team consisting of the likes of Jonathan Crane, Ted Sallas, Slifer, et al?
Cool cover! But heck, knowing Thanos' habits, he would go on to collect the power rings from ALL the different Lantern Corps. Thanos would be especially interested in the Black Lanterns to reconnect with Lady Death.
But a love triangle may spring up since Star Sapphire would be the only Lantern to give him any real trouble. Ultimately, Thanos would win the battles, but tragically still lose the war.
@Simon: Squirrel Girl, maybe. I mean, she canonically took down Dr. Doom on one occasion! As for whom Thanos might call? If I were him, I'd recruit the Superior Man-Spider (the mind of Dr. Otto Pussycat O'Nine-tails in the body of Webster Weaver) and Amazoo (evil android counterpart of the entire JLA*).
My first Green Lantern comics in the early '80s were drawn by artist Keith Pollard. I didn't see much of his work going into the 90s, though. Ross, or anyone know what happened to this artist? Thank you.

ReplyDeleteTo put it succinctly?* I think Sinestro's going to get butt-whupped.
ReplyDelete*Always wanted to use that adverb!

ReplyDeleteOh, dear! So much for my New Year's resolution to keep my replies short and sweet. :-(

A more fitting love triangle would be Thanos vs. Evil Ernie over Pulido's Lady Death.
ReplyDeleteso Cary - you think that Sinestro is going to ask Squirrel Girl for Help …
ReplyDeleteif so Thanos may have to call in ‘Mazing Man, or Forbushman and Ma Hunkle

ReplyDelete*Justa Lotta Animals.
@Ken Roskos: how about a Black Lantern version of Edward "The Comedian" Blake? With his smiley button being Evil Ernie's former "sidekick"?
ReplyDeleteCarycomic, that would be wicked!
ReplyDeleteI agree. It'd certainly be better than Amazoo!

ReplyDeleteI was going to opine that he had become a stand-up comic and actor opposite Bruce Willis. But, my folks corrected me just in time.
ReplyDelete"That's Kevin Pollack! Totally different guy."
How about Thanos vs. Black Adam, someday?
ReplyDeleteI doubt he'd fare any better than the combined Captains Marvel @ STF #4213.
