Superman and Photon

The Marvels will be the next big superhero movie released and for me Monica Rambeau will be the main focus of interest.  It sounds as though she will be using Photon as her heroic name, but I am holding out hope that there may be a change by the movie's end.  She was Captain Marvel in the comics well before Carol Danvers adopted the name, after all - I'd love to see her take the title back in the movies.

  1. If worse comes to worst, she can always change her name from "Rambeau" to "Raquel Balboa."

  2. I'm about equally interested in Monica and Kamala, but the latter mostly because Iman Villani has such a charm in her performance. Monica was one of my favorite superheroes in the 70s (and my favorite Marvel heroine until Nocturne came along), and I'll look forward to seeing what's done with her in terms of code-name and costume.

(As long as nobody calls her Captain Photon. I have dibs on that name.)

  3. Just--PLEASE--no over-abundant screaming of "OMG!" like a San Fernando Valley-girl version of Lena Lamont.

  4. I don't know...getting a "light" charge may help for a short time, but you know how fast he uses them up. At least he has that mini series about being away for twenty years going now. Very nice.

  5. @Carycomic: I know what you mean. I remember Kathy Greenwood appearing on WLIIA? back in the early 2000's. She was supposed to be playing the stereotype of the screechy-voiced girlfriend of a Depression-era movie gangster. She did such a good job, Colin Mochrie hilariously ad-libbed:

"This just in. Dogs in a 5-mile area go deaf!"

  6. @Det. Tobor: maybe if Supes got a charge from the entire Light Brigade...?

  7. @Carycomic: eh! I've heard worse.

  8. A herd of the light? What a chorus. Rainbows end? What would a rainbow charge do to our boy from the stars?

  9. Only Ross could answer that question...by having Superman get super-charged by the Golden Age hero from Eastern Color Printing: Rainbow Boy!

  10. About time for a reprise of everyone's favourite earth STF team, Captains Marvel.

  11. In light of this morning's cover, Superman might've been recruited by Photon to help out the Avengers against Doomsday. Which is all the more reason, Supes should be getting a charge from the entire Light Brigade.*

The Captains Marvel, as a whole, might stand a slim chance against Doomsday in terms of collective raw power. As in, the odds in their favor are "Split!" less than evenly.

*Does nobody read that poem in high school lit class, anymore?

  12. @Carycomic: they probably try to avoid reading it...even more than they try to avoid reading "Beowulf."

  13. Cary, do you mean "Half a [Justice] league onward/All in the valley of Death [of the Endless]/Rode the six hundred" by Alfred, Lord Pennyworth?
