The Thing and Wildfire

We've all been waiting patiently for actual casting news (not just rumors of the week) for Marvel's Fantastic Four movie, and it finally seems like that is imminent as Director Matt Shakman needs to begin filming soon.  The next big wait will begin then - to find out what The Thing will look like.  I imagine that will be one of the final reveals before a trailer is released so it will probably be at least another year before we get that information.  They can take their time, I just want them to get it right, he's easily my favorite Marvel character.

  1. This is one time Ben may feel sorry for how somebody else looks next to him.
Wildfire being from the future has seen all kinds of life forms, Seeing Ben, his first reaction would be... Yeah, and?? Not even a second look.
Ben was in good spirits when he quipped to Alicia. Can't wait to read this one.

  2. Considering that he and Alicia finally tied the knot in the mainstream FF mag, their being at Niagara Falls makes perfect sense. What brings Wildfire there, all the way from the 31st century, makes me wonder if that fiery arm could belong to the pyrokinetic entity who first endowed his Golden Age female namesake (nee Carol Vance Martin) with her magical control over flames.

  3. Maybe the enemy is Johnny Storm?

Maybe he was accidentally infused with Pym Particles and grew to giant size, but due to his unusual physiology, they warped his mind?

@Tobor: Yeah, after being teammates with Blok, Wildfire wouldn't bat an eye at Ben Grimm, though he might mistake him for one of Blok's people: "Huh? I guess Blok's people come in more than one color, just like humans!"

  4. it’s definitely a case the ol’ Ben Grimm would not even get a double take from a being who has no physical body,
but it could be Surtur’s hand as the god of the fire realms is for some reason not keen on water…

  5. Or maybe it's a 31st century version of Amazo having absorbed the combined super-powers of Fire Lad and Colossal Boy (which, if I recall correctly, were both derived from meteors). And, then, brought a thousand years back into the past by Dr. Doom! I mean, he was able to gain control over Ultron during the original Secret Wars. So, I can't imagine a brilliant roboticist like him failing to seize control of an android who resembles the leader of the Herculoids in long pants!

  6. I predict that the first trailer will come out, and the reaction will be much like we was with She-Hulk: people will complain about inferior VFX, forgetting that the CG department still has three or four months to finalize things. Then, when the movie's on the big screen, the general consensus will be more along the lines of "That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!"

I also agree that Wildfire wouldn't even blink at Ben's appearance. For one thing, as has been said, Drake's been in contact with all sorts of alien beings, so this is no biggie. For another, on Earth-STF, Ben would be a historical figure of some note. And for another, as an energy being, Drake doesn't have eyelids (you know, to blink with).

Speculation on the giant flaming hand, I mostly like Kid C's theory, but not with Johnny Storm. Instead, try Carol Vance Martin, the Golden Age Wildfire. That would also help explain Drake's presence in this era.

  9. Good comment on Wildfire being meh to Ben's look. I expect Drake would make a comment asking if Ben is from the same planet as Blok.

  10. Quoth the Grimmster: "Nah! The only Blok I knew growin' up was Yancy Street."
