Silver Surfer and Green Arrow

Ever since Superman and Batman became the World's Finest team, I've liked the idea of heroes working together despite mismatched powers and abilities.  So here is another pairing in that spirit.  I'd be interested to read a story that called for an alliance between these two.

  1. Oh, I have the perfect story idea for this scenario. Especially, since the original stories came out only a year apart back in the pre-Bicentennial Seventies! What if the Iron Hand (responsible for bringing together the Seven Soldiers of Victory) had been working with Dormammu--instead of Loki--to get hold of the Evil Eye of Avalon? I mean, let's face it. DC never canonically explained just _how_ the Iron Hand was able to generate that giant clawed hand that threatened to grind pre-Crisis Earth 2 into cosmic dust. At the time, I theorized that he somehow tapped into Golden Age GL's power ring (a la Bill Baggett and Hal Jordan).

Well, imagine that the Defenders and the JLA have caught on to how they were being used. So, in revenge for being denied the Evil Eye, at the last moment, Dormammu is having the giant clawed hand close in! So, instead of the Red Tornado making the ultimate sacrifice, it's the Silver Surfer and GA.

  3. Good one! I'm imagining an entire "Green Arrow In Space" story line now.

  4. Considering that Ollie teamed with Hal in that team up series no one saw coming or would think would work....this one isn't that far from it. Surfer is like a living power ring with his projected energies.
The question is what could a Cosmic Arrow do that some other kind of projectile or ray couldn't do. That could be something also.

  5. Well, for one thing, a Cosmic Arrow would provide a greater margin of survivability than a harpoon-shaped Nebula Rod that had to be manually thrust into its target at point-blank range. See JLA v.1/#102.

  6. The Cosmic Arrow is a cool concept, and one I could see Marvel actually utilizing at some point in the future (replacing Ollie with one of the Hawkeyes -- Clint in the comics, Kate in the movies). And the images, once again, blend perfectly; this looks like it could be the cover to an actual comic, and it's one that I'd be inclined to buy if I saw it.

Weird idea: you could even do an Iron Beetle thing on Oliver, and recolor him to all-white (or maybe all-green?) and have him become the Cosmic Arrow.

  7. That's more likely what GA would name a spaceship version of the Arrowplane.

  8. @Carycomic: I believe the politically correct term is "arrow-space vehicle."

    ;-D
