The Atomic Skull may have one of the goofiest villain costumes in comics (he later got a cool upgrade that was perhaps a bit too close to Ghost Rider's look), and may have never left the C-List of Superman Rogues... but I've always really liked the character. Despite his appearance, he's appeared in some pretty fun stories.
When you're right, you're right, Ross. My favorite Atomic Skull appearance is when he and some hyper-evolved she-panther penetrated the Fortress of Solitude...in DC PRESENTS #35!*
ReplyDelete*Which, if I recall correctly, either was revamped as or was inspired by the real-world SUPER FAMILY TEAM-UP.
Ha! I'm reminded of "The Rocketeer" and Paul Sorvino's delivery of a line very similar in sentiment to this. Nice.
ReplyDeleteStarti, that's what inspired this cover!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see I was on the right wavelength, then. 😃
ReplyDeleteSimilar also to John Byrne's Batman And Captain America one-shot, where the Joker (of all people) made the same rebuke of the Red Skull: "I may be a criminal lunatic, but I'm an AMERICAN criminal lunatic!" This was cover-dated February 1997, so you're correct that the '91 Rocketeer film did it earlier than Byrne.
ReplyDeleteThese two will make great actors. Look at those fantastic head shots. And they have broven they will work down to the bone.
ReplyDeleteWhy would they want to go into acting? They're already super-rich...being members of the Skull Society of Yale.
ReplyDeleteI guess you could say; playing these roles would take a lot of... backbone?
ReplyDelete@Ken Roskos: bravo! That was very humerus.
