I am really looking forward to seeing Monica Rambeau return in The Marvels. I'm hoping she uses Photon as a code name (it was her mother's call sign in the air force after all) rather than Spectrum. Actually, my true preference would be for her to take over the name of Captain Marvel by the film's end. I never liked that she lost the title in the comics.
Well, all I can tell you for sure, Ross, is that if you do a sequel to this cover, Steel will most likely be calling her
ReplyDelete"Wild Fire! He'll be calling her Wild Fire.
He'll be calling her Wiiiiiiiiiiiiild Fire!"
With all due respect (and apologies) to Michael Martin Murphy. :-)
I hope she ends up as the new Captain Marvel too. I like Brie, it's not her fault, but they kinda built the character at the cost of others' accomplishments. The Wasp was supposed to be the inspiration to the Avengers' name but she was cut from appearing in three different projects (one was cancelled, then she was removed from Avengers 1 because "no more than one main female lead", then also cut from Civil War) and never really became one in the MCU. Monica was one of the first female leaders of the Avengers and now is being treated as Carol's sidekick so to say. Kamala is getting her visually meaningful powers changed to look better alongside her. Not really a fan of that. That said, they reset the status quo for Spidey and gave Hawkeye his deafness and marriage to Mockingbird so maybe there's still time.
ReplyDeleteI'm also looking forward to seeing Monica; not only is she my favorite Marvel superheroine, but as I was watching WandaVision, Teyonah Parris became my favorite performer in the MCU (though it's a tight race, with RDJ, Tom Holland, and Julian Hilliard also in the running).
ReplyDeleteI dunno about her taking over the title of Captain Marvel at this point, though. I'd like to see her either taking the name Photon, or going without a code-name for a while (preferably the former), and then taking the name of Captain Marvel after the third CM movie.
I'm also kind of hoping we see her in at least one episode of Ms. Marvel. Since that series is supposed to lead in to The Marvels, it would seem appropriate.
Given the nature of her powers "Spectrum" would be a more fitting name. The one I want called Captain Marvel is Billy Batson so admittedly I'm biased on that one.
ReplyDelete@Tronix: Yeah, I just wish that Marvel would let DC buy in to the trademark name so Billy can be Captain Marvel again (and Mary can be Mary Marvel, Freddy can be Captain Marvel Jr., and something similar can be figured out for the three new kids).
ReplyDelete@Bob and Tronix: maybe they'll "split!" the difference and reintroduce the Vision as Capt. Marvel.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous: In the immortal words of Mr. Greenwade? "No. Just no."
ReplyDeleteCary's got it right... though a humorous Easter egg for the android Captain Marvel would be good.
ReplyDeletePS @Cary: Normally I put an ellipsis after "just." (Just sayin'.)
ReplyDeleteHey! That would make a great villain for the Electric Company version of Spidey. Bruce Gordon as...Ellipso!
ReplyDeleteMr. Greenwade? You're a genius. :-)
Or, failing that, how about Super Grover vs. Ellipso?
ReplyDeleteDidn't we see this w/ Kitty Pride?
ReplyDelete@Dr. Torch: no, I think it was more like Superman-Blue.
ReplyDelete@Anon & Dr. Torch: It could be worse. On TV, Melissa Benoist could've been forced to play SUPERGIRL-Red and SUPERGIRL-Blue!
ReplyDelete"No! Just...no."
