Legion of Super-Heroes and Futurama

I was very happy to read that contract negotiations were successful and the entire voice cast of Futurama is returning for new episodes of the series. I can't wait to see what the new episodes have in store and I look forward to seeing old favorites like Clamps and The Hedonism Bot.

I'm also glad to use the animated LSH here.   That cartoon was a lot of fun, and kept getting better as it went along for its too-short run.

Thanks to Blog Patron Bob Greenwade, among others who pointed out that these two 30th century groups really did need to get together!

  1. The animated debut of the LSH (including Saturn Girl and Chameleon Boy) on SUPERMAN: TAS was a thrilling surprise, to say the least. Their guest-appearance, on JLU, even more so! But, I can't say I was too crazy about the spin-off series. For one thing, the animation reminded me too much of the style used for the almost-current series about Krypto (which was expressly done for little kids)!

Don't even get me started on the cyborg Brainiac 5.

  2. I like to think I had something to do with this too, I suggested this pairing at least once!

Also I'm pleasantly surprised to read that Futurama is coming back, I was sure it was gone for good!

@Cary: Yeesh, I didn't think it was that bad!

  3. To be fair, Daviticus probably had more influence on this than I ever did; I doubt that I did anything more than lending my voice of support for this quite logical pairing.

The only missing 30th/31st century personage, I think, is one Nathaniel Richards.

PS: I wonder if we could get a Batman vs. Gorr the God-Butcher cover in advance of Thor: Love and Thunder? I don't mean a double-Christian Bale photo cover, but just something acknowledging that he played both roles. Plus, I think it'd be an interesting confrontation; Bats has taken on overwhelmingly more powerful foes before, and prevailed thanks to his "always prepared" superpower.

Other pairings that would be interesting even if not for the same-actor connection: Morbius vs. the Joker; Batman and Daredevil; Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) and Deadpool; Ambush Bug and the Fonz.

  4. Well, I guess the control freaks are happy, now!

  5. Great, esp the use of the animated version.

  6. I have to wonder, though, if both sets of protagonists will incur the Ghastly Rath of Mordru?*

  7. Came across this bit of inspiration on youtube:

And it occurs to me that a Batman '66 crossover with Get Smart would have been legendarily awesome.

  8. Greggory, that team up happened in STF #1073.

  9. @Greggory: The team-up to which Ross refers is this one.

@Ross: Even so, with that being Maxwell Smart's only appearance here to date, perhaps you could pair him up with Nicholas Hammond's Spider-Man, or Peter Sellers' Inspector Clouseau.

  10. Or, better yet, have the Spy Kids glaring at Agent 86 as he stands next to Steed and Peel while he utters a word balloon that reads: "Oh, you meant the other Avengers! Sorry about that."

  11. I avoided the animated Legion show for some years, because I disliked the character design. Finally watched season 1 a few years back, when my daughter was briefly into superhero shows, and I found it was pretty good! True, it's not "my" Legion, but the Legion has been around for decades and gone through many iterations. I thought the writers stayed true to the legacy while putting their own spin on it. I'm currently rewatching season 1, and will soon get season 2 (now that it's finally out on DVD). Pity they weren't able to complete their story arc with a third season.

  12. Season Two was even better, enjoy!

  13. Trust me, guys! Series cancellation after Season 2 was a mercy killing.

  14. Oh--- the Fonz! Yes- he could battle the Shark :)

  15. Indeed, he did, Anon. @ STF #3209!

  16. Ah! But, could even Lynda Carter--as Wonder Woman--fall prey to Fonzie's charisma? Or would she only like him as a "friend/brother"?*

*I long to see the day when some sit-com does a whole episode around the premise where some guy's marriage proposal was refused on that basis. And his initially sympathetic sister becomes increasingly amazed/annoyed how all other single men refer to such a refusal as "The Kiss of Death"!
