I really dug Jack Kirby's take on the villains of DC Comics. He had a real knack for inhuman yet expressive faces and DC has no shortage of those. I only wish I had seen more - it would have been cool to see him tackle Solomon Grundy, Sinestro or Two-Face.
Ross
ReplyDeletethanks for an all kirby treatment on Boxing Day here in Canada . it really made my morning , thank you !!!
Another Kirby kompilation fine - by me.
ReplyDeleteLex Luthor looks particularly fine. A real touch of the Asgardian about him...
Let his hair grow. And his beard. Let them snow-whiten overnight and he would look a lot like Thor's divine pater...
Could this be the time-tangled origin of Odin...?
I think you should explore this family connection further in the New Year.
Davejonz raises an interesting point. How would the Odinson react to the near-similarity in names (Thor & Luthor)?
ReplyDeleteAnd, for Mr. Elliott, our neighbor to the north, I would like to reiterate a joke that's become somewhat of a tradition in my family every Dec. 26 (and usually uttered half-seriously): "In Canada and the UK, Boxing Day refers to the giving of gifts to employees who had to work on Christmas Day. Here, in the States, it refers to the fist fights that break out at the Refund Counter!"
Happy Holidays, all! :-)
great cover compilation, Ross, however with their group name one would think a certain Latverian Doctor would be the leader of this assemblige of evil....
ReplyDeletethank you again for all you do for our entertainment....
Ross, I saw yesterday's cover and did not get to comment. I thought that it was a great cover for Christmas Day, something that could be seen as a Dr. Who Christmas Special but for all the copyright and trademark red tape that would have to be addressed.
ReplyDeleteToday's cover is great as well. I love the idea of Thor seeking to save the world and soliciting the help of any DC villain(s). The list of possibilities is long, and those chosen for this cover would be spot on.
I appreciate all your covers, Ross. It's always an anticipation to open this site to see what treasure is in store.
Uh, Thor? You might want to leave off the clown guy in the purple suit. As someone once remarked, "This Joker's a little too wild!" (On the other hand, leaving him out has its dangers as well, since the cat's out of the bag.)
ReplyDeleteI can imagine how Kirby would draw Grundy or Sinestro, but Two-Face? That would be a sight to see.
On another angle, I wonder if we could get Chris Hemsworth to wear those boots? (I can imagine two guys in the background: "Do you think he knows that those boots make him look... you know...?" "Probably not, but do you want to tell him?")
@Cary: That's a good one! I totally giggled at that one. It's good enough to spread.
@jack-el: Good point about Doom. I can see him being a part of the Legion's origin story in a Silver Age flashback, possibly with one or two non-DC "ringers" (such as Shredder or the Terror) mixed in for good measure.
Regarding Cary’s post about Luthor and Thor: what about the possibility of throwing some Kryptonian background into the mix and Thor is related to Luthor, or in this case, Lu-Thor ? Kinda like Kal-El?
ReplyDeleteAnd his sister, Lena Thor-Ul?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but with Blake still gone, this is a Thor spot for me.
ReplyDeleteRoss, Victor and the Legion of Doom???
ReplyDeleteHey! What's Don is Don.
ReplyDeleteThat was for Anony Mouse, btw.
ReplyDeleteHave you done the Legion of Super-Heroes vs. the Legion of Doom?
ReplyDeleteGiven Ross' preference for Marvel vs. DC characters, LOD vs. Shiar Imperial Guard might be likelier.
