Elektra was brought to life perfectly with Elodie Yung on Netflix' Daredevil. Now that Charlie Cox is bringing DD over to the MCU, I hope that she will join him eventually.
I still say that Dick Tracy is ripe for a streaming show, with his amazing rogues gallery. The correct profile with prominent nose is a must for the title role - I used to think Adrien Brody would be a good choice, now I'm thinking that Adam Driver would be a decent option as well.
Wow, great at selection on Elektra! Very impressive
ReplyDeleteif actor karl malden was still alive he would be great to play dick tracy...he sure had the nose to play dick tracy....lol....and he played a good cop in the tv series the streets of san fransisco....great show
ReplyDeleteEver see the Tracy pilot? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=edF_b-Fc0bI has it. And I can hear Elektra say I;m not bad..i'm just drawn that way.
ReplyDeleteYou're focused on the nose; I gravitate toward the chin, a big part of why I think Warren Beatty worked so well in the role. For today, a streaming Dick Tracy might do well with Sebastian Stan.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, either Adrien Brody or (if he can do an American accent) Adam Driver could be brilliant as The Shadow, who I think is due for either a reboot movie or a streaming series.
As for Elektra, I think maybe a Disney+ miniseries with Elodie Yung might be in order. Personally I'd be more eager to see one with Mike Colter and Finn Jones, but that's just me.
For that matter, I wouldn't mind seeing Alice Eve's take on Bloody Mary in the Moon Knight series; I found the character quite compelling. (And I think that a cover with that character versus Crazy Jane wouldn't go far amiss.)
Elektra is just cartoonish enough her to fit in with Tracy. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI have no complaints on how Jennifer Garner portrayed Elektra in both DAREDEVIL & the eponymous sequel. As for this cartoon-style depiction of her, I must admit to some minor curiosity as to its origin. Drawn by one of the the animators behind DC's "Super Hero Girls," perhaps?
ReplyDeleteArtists are listed in the labels below the image. Elektra is from a sketch by Bruce Timm.
ReplyDelete@Anon@11:28: I agree with you about Jennifer Garner. And in this case Elektra was apparently drawn by Bruce Timm, who is usually associated with the DC Animated Universe beginning with Batman: The Animated Series.
ReplyDelete@Ross: have you done any all-Timm covers? He's the only artist listed on #2263 (The Mask vs. Loki), but I'm not sure that means he's the only one featured.
And would there be any way to get an all-Foglio cover? Maybe Gadget Girl and Skeeve? Phil's going to be at OryCon this November, and I'd love the opportunity to get him to autograph something like that.
There's an all-Timm Tigra/Batman cover off the top of my head
ReplyDeleteDon't recognize those Phil Foglio characters, I only really know him from a Plastic Man mini many years ago
ReplyDeleteSkeeve is the protagonist in Robert Asprin's "Myth" novels. Phil drew covers and interior illustrations for the TPB versions of most of those novels, as well as "Myth Adventures," the first eight issues of the comic book adaptation of the first novel, Another Fine Myth (which is a humor-fantasy classic).
ReplyDeleteGirl Genius (whom I misnamed above as Gadget Girl) is Phil's own original character.
Phil's also done the Angel and the Ape and Stanley and His Monster miniseries, the Buck Godot comics, select issues of Grimjack, and various other things (including game materials such as GURPS Illuminati University and, apparently, several Magic: The Gathering cards).
@Bob and Ross: thank you both! :-)
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's Bruce Timm's work, alright. Makes me wonder how an animated version of "DC vs. Marvel" would've looked under his personal supervision.
ReplyDelete@Cary: Even now, I'd like to see him do a mashup of DC vs. Marvel and Avengers/Justice League using the 90s versions of both animated universes, including as many of the voice actors are still available.
