Black Knight and Dr. Fate

The final Eternals trailer showed  more about the plot  - 7 days to stop Earth cracking like an egg to give birth to a new Celestial - but just a quick glimpse of Dane Whitman.  It looks like he will be very much a supporting character, and we will probably have to wait for another Marvel movie down the line for him to fully become the Black Knight we  know from the comics.  At least his story is being set up.  Maybe he'll come into possession of the Ebony Blade in a post credits sequence?

  2. Well, it stands to reason that he'll be a supporting character, if Marvel Films intends to be faithful to the "Gann Josin" Avengers story arc from the 1990's.

Speaking of which: is today's cover a faithful sequel, or prequel, to STF #3416?

  3. My prediction is that Dane will get his sword, or at least something broadly hinting at it, in a mid-credits scene. (The actual post-credits scene will likely do something to set up Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness -- though I supposed it could also be for Ms. Marvel or Moon Knight, the way Black Widow set up a plot thread in Hawkeye.

In any case, he appears to be very much an "audience surrogate" character for Eternals, asking the questions that the audience will be wondering and the like (though I don't think anyone in the audience would be smashing Ikea tables).

  4. I don't believe what Dr Fate is saying on that cover, I think he's talking out his ***

  5. "...his helmet?"

Of course, he is! It's Nabu's essence confirming the Brazier of Truth's mystical diagnosis.

  6. well Ross, so we are getting a female Makkari in the Eternals film instead of the comic book's male one.....
your cover above is your grear as always job....
on the Eternals front might i suggest an all Kirby meeting of Makkari with Jack's Mercury stories from the 50's.....
now on to some business about your blog....
you have never used any Irwin Allen characters even though all four of his sci-fi tv shows have had comic book tie-ins....
(Land of the Giants, Lost in Space two shows, Time Tunnel and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea)
do you have something against this corner of sci-fi comics universe????
i found this out because i was going to suggest a meeting of Lost in Space characters with those from the Space Family Robinson for some future cover....

  7. Lost in Space is the only one I've ever watched. I'm sure they'll appear eventually.

  8. I'd prefer LIS:TOS meet STAR TREK: TOS. Or VTTBOTS/GILLIGAN'S ISLAND; or TIME TUNNEL/QUANTUM LEAP; or LOTG/SUPERMAN (Chris Reeve); or even LOTG/STAR WARS: ROTJ!

  9. I would love a original Star Trek/Gilligan's Island team up. I don't know how such a team up would occur but the Star Trek crew has been known to time travel and the castaways had Gilligan's Planet so its possible. Both had Filmation cartoons which would be a good source for artwork.

    Gilligan vs Spock
    Skipper vs Kirk
    Professor vs Bones
    Mr Howell vs Scotty
    Mrs Howell vs Sulu
    Ginger vs Uhura
    Mary Ann vs Chekov

  10. @my namesake: a I recall, Filmation didn't have a cartoon version of Mr. Chekov. That's why they substituted Lt. Arex (he of the three eyes and matching legs)!
