Green Arrow Vs. Hawkeye in: Barton's Betrayal!"

This marks the tenth time that Green Arrow and Hawkeye have met on the blog - They first met in one of my very earliest STF covers... then they were at odds with a few fellow Avengers along for the tale... Next up they faced off against The Hulk and Solomon Grundy... then it was time to hone their skills... and next they shared an adventure with Black Canary and Mockingbird, then there was a classic adventure from early in their careers... then they battled some robots together... there was the time that Green Arrow tried to steal Hawkeye's ride... and they even appeared in a photo cover for a proposed movie...

Always glad to use a Neal Adams image on this blog.  I was lucky enough to pick up a sketch by him many years ago.  It's very loose, but his signature style still shows through:

  1. Beautiful Superman. Arrow looks like he could make the C W actor proud.

Arrow Hawk for the New Amalgamated universe.
Remember how Diggle felt after Flashpoint when he learned he had a daughter before Flashpoint then a son after it? Now imagine how Kent felt remembering he had one child during Crisis then twins after the Crisis rebirth. Would he tell Lois?

  3. I remember the grown-up Golden Age Robin telling his Earth One namesake (in a pre-Crisis JLA/JSA team up) how he had been given an experimental glider-winged costume designed by a friend named...Neal Adams.

I was hooked on his artwork, ever afterward. I even bought a soft-cover compilation of his artwork back in the late 1970's! It had DC's best facing off against Marvel's best...with Charlton Comics' Atomic Mouse literally caught in the middle.

  4. "Barton's Betrayal?"

Let me guess: someone's abducted the Huntress and the price for her safe return is...luring Black Canary into a trap.

But, who could go to such elaborate lengths to ensnare all four? My first guess: Kraven the Hunter!

  5. All right, so technically, he was my second guess. Sheesh! So many grammar-nazis around here!

  6. This is a great cover, Ross! The poses don't quite match up 100%, but one really needs an eye for detail to see the weird angles. The integration of the images is good enough that I can't tell what parts of the scene are with Ollie and which are with Clint (my guess is that everything was with Clint and Ollie's just pasted in, but I'm far from certain about that).

With ten appearances now, I think it may be time to give these two their own tag -- though I can't come up with any suggestions that aren't too silly-sounding to share.

@Comment Deleted: From the way the scene was played at the end of Crisis, I got the impression that Lois was the one who was informing Clark of the new situation. Most likely J'Onn had gotten to her already, but not Clark.

  7. PS @Ross: There are two characters whom I've wanted for years to see together, but the actors who played them are no longer with us (and since they're both TV characters, even this request falls under the header of "it doesn't hurt to try"). They are Tyrone F. Horneigh and Duane "The Oldest Man" Toodleberry, the characters played by Arte Johnson and Tim Conway on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In and The Carol Burnett Show respectively.

  8. @Bob Greenwade: how about "The Arrow Collar Workers?"

  9. @Anon: Not much of an improvement over "The Bow Bros" (which I came up with this afternoon and only barely makes it out of the above-mentioned "stupid" category).

  10. Coincidentally, just a few hour after posting this cover, I found out my Niece/Goddaughter had her third baby, a boy. His name? Archer!

  13. Ooh! Ooh! I got the best recommendation of all.

    The Bow Brummels!

  14. @Ross: Cool coincidence! And congratulations on the new family member!

@Hyram: I'm not sure I understand here. If you're suggesting a tag for Tyrone and Duane, I doubt they'd appear more than once (even if Ross were to decide to do it at all). And "Stuffed Shirts" seems like a weird nickname for the two greatest "old man" characters from early-70s sketch comedy.

  15. I vote for Anon842's suggestion.

They both consider themselves irresistible to the ladies. So, why wouldn't they call themselves "The Bow Brummels?"

  16. Authors just want to get Barton in trouble.

  17. It took me a while to get the reference, but "The Bow Brummels" does seem quite fitting.
