I remember first seeing Robocop on the big screen. In those pre-Batman 1989 days, it was the closest thing to a big superhero movie out there. My friends and I decided to watch it at a drive-in theater. We were quite enjoying it when for some reason, the sound cut out half way through. When we went to the front office to complain, nobody was there! It would be years before I rented a copy and finally saw the end of the movie.
Guessing you did see Superman when it came out in 1978. This setup reminds me of the Justice League Detroit branch. Robocop sees them but does he believe in them?
ReplyDeleteYou just know Rocket is planning on steaking RoboCop's leg.
ReplyDeleteGroot and RoboCop a match made in the Twilight Zone Travel Bureau.
ReplyDeleteWell, even in 1989, drive-in movie theaters had a reputation for being centers of p.d.a. (publicly displayed affection). Maybe that rep was occasionally contributed to by staff as well as guests!
ReplyDeleteDang it, Crazy Ivan! You beat me to it!
ReplyDelete@Ivan & MHS: I was just wondering a couple of days ago whether the MCU Rocket's obsession with collecting cybernetic parts was from his comics counterpart. He'd have hit the motherlode with RoboCop, but I think it might be even more interesting to see him with Inspector Gadget.
ReplyDeleteAlmost as interesting as Mogo vs. Galactus....
Personally, I don't think even RR & Groot are foolish enough to try and abduct Robocop just to strip him for spare parts! More likely, they've grudgingly teamed up against some common enemy. Like, say, Pud-face Morgan (from ROBOCOP THE SERIES) and Ronan the Accuser?
ReplyDeleteP.S.---yeah, I know. Ronan was killed off at the end of GOTG-Part 1. But, what's to have prevented him from having been accidentally un-blinked at the climax of AVENGERS: END GAME?
ReplyDeleteAside from intellectually lazy screen writers, I mean.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Proxima Midnight instead? (Using the assumption that the story takes place between GotG2 and A:IW for Rocket & Groot.)
ReplyDeleteA just-now thought: I wonder how the Guardians of the Galaxy would handle Starro?
Especially if Pete Quill got face-hugged and turned into...
ReplyDeleteSTARRO-LORD!
@Cary: Bob like.
ReplyDeleteThey're there only because Rocket set up Robocop on a blind date with Nebula. He just wants to see what kind of offspring they would produce, that's if things click.
ReplyDeleteAnd, if things don't click, who would he blind-date next?
ReplyDeleteRobocop: "Proxima Midnight! She and I might hang out, next!"
RR and Groot(latter, just lip-synching): "PROXIMA MIDNIGHT! PROXIMA MIDNIGHT!"
So, he'll be walkin' after Midnight?
ReplyDeleteOut in the moonlight?
And if they became the parents of a daughter, nine months later, would they name her "Silvery Moon?"
