I enjoyed the Will Payton Starman series. It was just great old school super-heroics, and with the always reliable Roger Stern on writing chores, it was a fun, if overlooked, series. The unattractive costume color scheme from the first two years did not help, Starman looked much better once he switched to the red and black version. He reminded me a little of Richard Rider, so this might be a fun pairing to see.
So many Starman. Name gets kicked about more than Black Cat.
ReplyDeleteWith Starman and Star Girl I can't wait to see what they do with Star Dog!
(Is it true he has a black sheep family member called Star Crossed?)
They should all get together and form a singing group: the Starman Vocal Band.
ReplyDeleteNever saw that series; so, I'll have to take your word for it.
ReplyDeleteAs for this cover-sim? Interesting! Makes me wonder if this "virus" might be responsible for the Caucasian-oid complexion among half the modern-day Kree.
I remember ordering a subscription to that series and receiving my "Welcome Starman to the DC Universe" badge when the first few issues came. Man, I was kind of a sucker. It did end up being a pretty good book, though, and I love seeing Will get recognition these days!
ReplyDelete@Bob: they'd probably disband after a four week-long summer TV series.
ReplyDelete@Cary Was that with the Star Lite Express?
ReplyDelete@HHH: No, it was a pun on the Starland Vocal Band, a one-hit wonder group ("Afternoon Delight") who had a short-lived TV series that was most notable for giving David Letterman his first big break.
ReplyDeleteHey @@ Bob B How about Starman, Starlord, Stargirl, Starfox, and Star Sapphire share the evening sky as Starro croones that swell ditty, "Are the Stars Out Tonight?"
ReplyDelete@Ross, is it true you are going to use Porky Pig to sign off on the last cover you ever do?
Has Stargirl, Star Sapphire, or any other female "Star" character been pregnant? She could be paired with Starfox for a story called "A Star is Born!"
ReplyDelete@Deleted: With Thanos right behind him, ready to "snap"!
@Works for m
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the Starman series. I didn't enjoy when Will Payton was tied into the earlier alien Starman. Just saying. Plus there were not a lot of south-western heroes. Especially ones with some serious power.
ReplyDeleteWill was just a regular guy that comes up with powers and tries to use them for good.
Ordinaryguy2
How about Mikkel "Starman" Tomas being ret-conned as a gay Talokian?
ReplyDeletethe sequel STARMAN & NOVA II: HALA BACK GIRL! Electric Boogaloo; This Time It's FuNkY.
ReplyDeleteFunkier than a certain phantom from the Revolutionary War?
ReplyDelete@Anon@10:09: A couple of years ago someone (I wish I could remember who) suggested that individual teamed with The Phantom. Personally I'd like to see him with Deadman or the Ghostbusters.
ReplyDeleteWas it someone with the same initials as a certain disco-era trio from Australia?
ReplyDelete@Anon: If it was me, I would've said so. (Well, it could've been, but I just don't remember.)
ReplyDelete@Bob Greenwade: ohhhhhhh! The BeeGees. I thought he was referring to Little River Band. Only there was way more than three of them!
ReplyDeletePossibly. I recall that, and the Dog Elmo's name.
ReplyDeleteAs in, Elmo the Great Dane? Semi-sentient sidekick of the Golden Age Doll Man?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous: that'd be my guess.
