There have been many attempts to put Black Canary in live action, but none have seemed like the comic character to me. The first try was the campy Challenge of the Super-Heroes specials in the 70's, where at least the costume was spot on. A version appeared in the first Birds of Prey TV show which was a young girl with vague psychic abilities. I had high hopes for Black Canary on Arrow, but the hero was broken up into three or four version of the character, none which really reflected Dinah Lance from the comics. Most recent was Jurnee Smollett's take, who fainted after a single use of the canary cry. Black Canary seems like one of the easiest heroes to adapt to live action, maybe one of these days they'll get her just right.
First, make her in the original style - no sonics, just Emma Peel like skills. Then, later add the sonics. Arrow introduced BARRY ALLEN first, then later made him the Flash. Character growth does work.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, the BIRDS OF PREY series had an elder Black Canary with a sonic scream, rather than psionic, but she was only in one episode and they named her Carolyn Lance.
ReplyDeleteAnd that was the best episode of the series!
DeleteSeeing as CW seems to be gradually fading out the Arrowverse, all speculation seems pointless.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the version on Smallville (as played by Alaina Huffman), who was arguably the closest to the familiar comics versions of the character. Still, I thought Juliana Harkavy's portrayal of the Arrowverse character was a reasonable rendition.
ReplyDeleteHow about iron man and hawkman vs gentleman ghost and the ghost
ReplyDeleteBat in the Sun does a lot of crossover fights and did one with Black Canary vs. Black Widow that did a great job of Canary with her powers and in one of her modern costumes. Probably one of the most faithful live-action adaptations, and better than any of the professional studios.

I've seen that, those guys do amazing work!
ReplyDeleteSuddenly, I'm thinking that if they want to depict the "sonic scream", they could just have her yodel.......
ReplyDelete@Richard: preferably, by dubbing in the Slim Whitman Yell from MARS ATTACKS!
ReplyDeleteSorry, but why would our bashful billionaire seek BC as back up? Ant-Man or Wasp, yeah. Something came up at the last minute and she was the only one available? ok.
ReplyDeleteHHH: I think that, in this case, the billionaire is the back-up! (And of course he's not going to say no to a gorgeous woman in fishnet stockings.)
ReplyDeleteBob is correct, at least that's how i meant it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Dinah's been targeted for assassination by the Serpent Society on the orders of her villainous cousin...Ferdy Lance.
