It will be interesting to see if Solomon Grundy gets a larger role in the second season of Stargirl. I do remember one of his less lethal rebirths led him to assisting Infinity, Inc. in the comics for a while, maybe they could go that route. I guess it all depends on the CGI budget!
Solomon Grundy previously tormented the X-Men in STF #2997...
This is a really great cover today. The old school X-Men and DD are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteNever mind Grundy; what's Doctor Fate up to in Matt Murdock's courtroom???

Solomon Grundy also had a getle, heroic incarnation in James Robinson's Starman.
ReplyDeleteI like Sekowski's works but never got the dots he added like here with Fate's shorts. What are they supposed to indicate? To me, it makes the shorts look like they're made of a rough, chafing fabric.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it was the Comics Code Authority's attempt to prevent salacious sarcasms like "Battle of the Bulges." For as Martha Kent so wisely observed on the series premiere of LOIS & CLARK: "They don't call them tights for nothing!"
ReplyDelete@Bob Greenwade: maybe Matt was retained by Kent Nelson to defend one of the latter's medical colleagues in a malpractice suit. Like, say, Beth Chapel or Pieter Cross?
ReplyDelete@Cary: The part I remember is:
ReplyDeleteMartha: "Well, they won't be looking at your face."
Clark: "Mom!"
@Bob: And her now-classic reply was the second part. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe X-Men never made any money, saving the world from Solomon Grundy!
ReplyDeleteMaybe they will, one day. ;-)
ReplyDeleteP.S. @ Ross: I wonder if SG is being mind-controlled by the erstwhile Maha Yogi? Both today, and back in STF #2997.
ReplyDeletelong for the day Solomon finally gets Miss Grundy to the alter. That will be a marriage set in stone.
ReplyDeleteThey found since #850 Grundy was adopted. He's going to protect her at all costs.

ReplyDeleteDear Ross: has Spidey ever contended against SG?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous: see STF #1700.
