ROM was based on a toy, even though the actual action figure may not have been as impressive as the character as depicted in comics. One thing I really liked about ROM was his arch enemies - the Dire Wraiths. They had a great design, unlike the look of most aliens. My question is - was there ever any Dire Wraith toys sold as accessories to ROM? Thinking back I don't remember any, and that seems like a missed opportunity to me.
Galadorian Justice in the 23rd century : Have Neutralizer Will Travel is Brought To You BY Cream of Wheat, Dolly Madison, Leggs and Milton Bradley.
ReplyDeleteThere was a Dire Wraith figure sculpted for Toy Biz that has never seen release.
ReplyDeleteI still wish Disney would buy Hasbro and let Rom come back to the Marvel Universe :p
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see a two-parter where Rom trains with Yoda to become Rom: Jedi Knight, only to face the Emperor's new minions, the Darth Wraiths
Rom with a lightsaber? Doesn't work for me. On the other hand, Rom in the Star Wars galaxy does work for me. He could help Ahsoka Tano fight the allied Dire Wraiths and Imperial Stormtroopers.
ReplyDeleteIt'd be almost as much fun as seeing the Men in Black arresting Hondo Ohnaka! (Or, better yet, Lobo turning Hondo over to the MiB for the bounty.)
"Wraiths of Khan." I LOVE IT! :-)
ReplyDeleteI also love the potential for a real crossover between these characters. The DC/IDW mini-series "Spectrum War" proved better than I originally anticipated, as I wasn't (and still am not) a big fan of the first two Kelvinized Star Trek films. But, as both Rom and Star Trek are currently licensed to IDW, right now, a meeting between Kirk and Rom would be perfectly do-able. But, they'd only be acceptable to me if Rom was drawn by some of the artists from his Marvel days and Kirk was similarly drawn by artists from his DC days!
perhaps that Dire Wraith is a female.....
ReplyDeleteand she has been flirting with Captain Jimmy hoping to get lucky....
This cover has inspired a special request: Ralph from Greatest American Hero, Sam from Quantum Leap and Hobson from Early Edition forming a "group" of The Odd Man Out.
ReplyDelete@jack-el: I think it is a female...as I recall the males looked quite different! Lot of sexual dimorphism in that species!
ReplyDeleteI do NOT think Kirk would be okay with her idea of "getting lucky", though!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm! A STAR TREK-version of Hybrid loose in a certain galaxy far, far away. Daviticus? You're a genius! :-)
ReplyDeleteThere's already a Rom in Star Trek -- Quark's brother on ST:Deep Space 9.
ReplyDelete@Anon656: Thanks...I think?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I wouldn't mind seeing Rom (either one) become a Jedi!
Hybrid was the mutant son of a Dire Wraith-posing-as-an-Earth man and his human wife. Imagine if Klarion the Witch Boy was the ugly psycho stepbrother of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial!
ReplyDelete@Carycomic: Oh, okay.
ReplyDelete@Other Bob: Maybe Ross could do a cover with Rom and ROM?
ReplyDeleteDire wraith what if nightmares were pink.
ReplyDeleteAnd what if Jim Kirk met Vampirella of Drakulon?
ReplyDelete@Anon1027: Now, there's one woman who could really put the bite on him!
ReplyDeleteWhat I meant was, I thought maybe she was going to eat his brain.
