Ghost Rider Vs. Skeletor

Masters of the Universe seems to be on the verge of a comeback.  From what I read, there are two animated shows and a live action movie in the planning stages (not to mention the already airing  She-Ra and the Princesses of Power on Netflix).  Anything has to be a step up from the first movie attempt back in the day!  It will be interested to see which of these projects most successfully brings Eternia's heroes back into spotlight.

  1. Oh, I don't know, Ross. I still get a kick out of watching the original version from Golan-Globus! More specifically, watching Bruce Springsteen's ex-dance partner from "Dancing In The Dark" and the future Tom Paris help everyone's favorite Expendable battle the Man-Who-Would-Be-Count Dracula.

Speaking of Skeletor; how about a cover featuring him vs. Darth Vader? If only so we could finally learn his true homeworld! Personally, I think Skeletor is from the planet Yag'Dhul.

But, of course, that's not a Givin.

  2. P.S.---I saw the series premiere of STAR GIRL, last night. Not bad! Although, [spoilers dead ahead!] the Cosmic Staff acting like the mischievous child of a Mother Box is a rather dubious departure from the comic book canon.

  3. Seems to me someone specifically suggested this face-off* a while ago. It's a pretty typical thing for such a request, though it wouldn't have been mine; I was barely a MotU fan with the original cartoon -- though now I'm a bit intrigued, with the cast Cary cited plus Marty McFly's high school principal and the 20th century's most famous Little Person. And the cover here does suggest a pretty rollicking tale!

These last few covers, were this an actual comic, would have had me abandoning any sort of newsstand/comic shop purchase, and signing up for a subscription straight to my mailbox.

    *Pun totally intended.

  4. @Cary: (re: second comment) I watched it too. Dubious, yes, but still fun and effective. I can imagine a future STF photo cover with the Cosmic Staff teaming up with the Cloak of Levitation (with their respective heroes nowhere to be seen).

  5. Cool! They could play hooky with the Brooms from Disney's "Fantasia!"

  6. Stargirl was better than I expected. Stripy's robot at the end reminded me of the Iron Giant.
On the other side, There was a surprise in the news:
    The Hollywood Reporter
'Batwoman' Shocker: Ruby Rose Exits CW Drama Ahead of Season 2

With Ghost Rider, as seen on S.H.I.E.L.D., he might go down but that has nothing to do with keeping him down. Depends on the strength of the magic involved.

  7. How about Mumm-ra from "ThunderCats Roar" and Lord Hater from "Wander Over Yonder"?; they were drawn much alike.

Skull Island would be their base. Xylophone their instrument of choice. It will be the crowning triumph of the Nogginers! You can bet your noodle on it.

  10. To my surprise, I really enjoyed the film. Frank Langella was a brilliant Skeletor. For some reason everyone dumps on. In my book (and I'm hard to please) it's a really good film, way better than some of the stuff that people give good reviews to.

  11. Re: Stargirl... I'm betting that Starman's mind was somehow transferred into the staff when he died.

Re: Skeletor... Have you ever seen this commercial?

  12. The Masters Of The Universe movie has it's problems (as do those silly Ghost Rider films) but you have to admit that there is probably no actor they can cast today that looks more like He-Man than Dolph did in his prime.

  13. @Big Mike: I had the exact same thought, except that you came up with a brilliant name for them.

  14. @Bob & Mike: the Minbari might have some objections to that. ;-)

All those big brains and they still can't come up with a cure for the common cold.
Do they even bother with Sun block?

Ah well, the eyes have it. Meeting adjourned.

  16. @Bob Buethe: either that; or it's been the hiding place for Johnny Thunder's pink genie for nigh on ten years.

  17. Above anon, no he went to start a new team at Marvel.

  18. @Cary: I thought about that. It could be that Skeletor plans to use the aid of his erstwhile allies to invade the Minbari.

@Anon@8:59: Now, there's a thought: Johnny Thunder with (or versus) Red Hulk and/or the Thunderbolts team. Besides the name synchronicity, it has the potential for some good interactions.

  19. Like Sonic the Hedgehog, Masters of the Universe appears to have evolved from a marketed toy (or in Sonic's case, video game) to a fiction legend, esp. in comic books.

  20. @Anon859: I thought that team was founded by the Marvel Yeti-From-Outer Space who's always trying to steal Earthling kids. Or am I thinking of the Sorcerer Supreme wanna-be who's always trying to repair the broken Wand of Watoomb?
