It will be interesting to see where that character of Gamora goes in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3, after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Can Star-Lord win her heart a second time? What will her purpose be now that she has reconciled with her sister and her megalomaniac father is out of the picture? I'm hoping we see more of her fighting skills - for such a legendary combatant, we haven't really seen her truly cut loose with those skills yet.
That goes double for Mantis who, back in the Eighties, would've made Elektra look like a stumble bum re: the martial arts!
ReplyDeleteSeconded on Mantis. The MCU version has become a mentalist rather than a martial artist, but if the next phase (lower-case P) of the movies is going to emphasize female empowerment, then Mantis should definitely come into her own, and truly kick names and take ass!
ReplyDeleteAs for Gamora, I agree with you, Ross. It took a while before we got to see Wolverine cut loose, so it's OK that we've waited for it to happen with Gamora, but the time is now right... preferably with a sword like the one we see here.
And in these pages, Gamora really needs to meet Jade.
Agree on all.
ReplyDeleteI loved the Mantis of the first set of appearances. Some would call it a bit of a stereotype but if you see many Chinese produced Chinese marital arts films she would fit right in. Maybe if the producers picked someone with more marital arts skills they would have written more fight scenes - the actress has trained in boxing but does not appear to have the movement skills of a Silver Age Mantis.
Gamora has not really cut loose in comics lately or film. She seems to be living on reputation now.
Need another appearance of the green team.
ReplyDeleteHas Electra encountered Lady Shiva and Gamora in a ladies nite out?
info just came now:
ReplyDeleteThe CW made some big announcements about their fall 2020 and winter 2021 programming on Thursday, giving us a look at what to expect from a network impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Supernatural, the last season of which was cut short due to the entertainment world's hiatus, is finally set to premiere in the fall and finish out the stretch of episodes we didn't get to see. We'll also be getting Swamp Thing, which comes to the CW after being canceled after one season on DC Universe.
So yes, CW will pretty much start in Jan., 2021. The heroes will be back.
Actually Swamp Thing is just airing the episodes already made and shown on the app. It is NOT a new season or continuation.

for more :)
I wonder if we'll get to see Robby Reed meet Jughead Jones on "Riverdale?" If so, I can just picture the episode title.

@Anonymous: I think you stand a better chance of seeing Godzilla vs. The X-men...right here. ;-)
