Batgirl Vs. Elektra in: "Crimes of my Father..."

Batgirl is another one of those characters that has many different costumes though the years, but in my eyes has never topped her debut look.  The one tweak I have really liked was changing the grey to jet black, like she did in the Animated Series.  The yellow gloves and boots may not lend themselves to stealth, but they look so good that I can forgive that impracticality.

These two previously met in STF #1889...

  1. Great cover! The actual fight feels a bit one-sided so I hope Barbara talks Elektra down quickly.

Agree about the variations on Batgirl's costume. The one from Burnside that Cameron and Babs created is a very, very close second. It was a fantastic update.

I always wonder if my preference for original costumes is too heavily colored by nostalgia but, "I like what I like."

  2. Arguably, Batgirl's actual "debut look" is the outfit in all dark purple, with only the belt, bat-symbol, and cape lining in yellow, as worn by Yvonne Craig. I had to double-check on the timeline (by way of Wikipedia, as usual), and while Barbara Gordon was created by Carmine Infantino and Julius Schwarz, she was created as much for the Batman TV show as for comics, and I'm not clear on what month her debut comic came out. Of course, that's just Barbara Gordon, but the earlier appearances of Betty Kane as Bat-Girl are probably better off forgotten.

Personally, I'd like to see Babs in something like the one you have here, but with the gloves and boots matching the deep blue of the cape.

Speaking of Betty (now Bette) Kane, now that I've read up a bit on her more recent history and learned that she's a cousin to Kate Kane, it might be interesting to see her show up on Batwoman in the next season or two to eventually become Flamebird/Hawkfire.

And on the topic of other Batgirls, the one I expected to see here fighting Elektra was Cassandra Cain. With both of those two women having trained as top-notch assassins, the battle would be pretty intense.

PS: Barbara and Elektra have met before, in #1889.

  3. If Wonder Woman's stories in the time of the early 70s were interesting enough, it could make up for the change of costume(?).

  4. If Wonder Woman's stories were interesting around The early 70s, her new costume(?) can be forgiven(?).

  5. I agree, Ross. Babs, once more attired as the Domino Daredoll, is far more preferable than all her Oracle years put together.

  6. @Anon@11:53&1:14 - For me, both at the time and now, the white one-piece was the only good thing about that period.

@Anon@1:34 - I'm guessing that neither you nor anyone close to you has mobility-related disabilities.

  7. @Bob Greenwade: Nah! I just got sick and tired of the Oracle/Calculator feud.

    Talk about overly drawn-out!

  8. Much as I hate to admit it, Anon609 is correct. Their never-ending battle for cyber-mojo supremacy was getting to be a bit Freudian in nature. :-(

  9. Well, say that, then. I sure couldn't argue against it. (Though he certainly did make a logical arch-nemesis.)
