The CW made a big deal out of introducing Ryan Choi in the Crisis on Infinite Earths event. I thought that was so that they could have Ray Palmer pass on the mantle of The Atom to him, just as happened in the comics. However, Brandon Routh's final appearance on DC's Legends of Tomorrow has come and gone, with no sign of Choi. It seems like a lot of set up for a character that they haven't used again. Oh well, it's not like I'd expect him to get in costume or use shrinking powers much on that show anyway - Palmer barely did, after all!
All too true. Ryan could come in, but he has a new family to care for..unless something happened to them. Then, he could be invited to join, work on the costume Ray left behind (?), and become a fighter like Hawkgirl did. Nah, too formula.
ReplyDeleteIf Roxxon merged with Lexcorp, would Luthor change the name to Lexxon?
ReplyDeletereal question is how long was this planned for? B.R. was too expensive to keep working for C.W.? Maybe it was a difference of ratings. He seemed ok when he was working on Arrow. C.W. is starting to look like a pale reflection of its good old days. Supergirl actress is pregnant? Flash can't do much superspeeding? Should we expect Star Girl to be the next Riverdale?
ReplyDeleteHow sure are we that this was Brandon's actual "final" appearance? There's still room for Ray to pass his suit on to Ryan, and the CW did state quite explicitly that Osric Chou would be joining the cast as a regular. All it would really take to fulfill that would be for him to come aboard on the season finale (though with COVID-19 delays, I'd give them grace to start next season with it).
ReplyDeleteAnd Ray did suit up this season more than last (which says something, given that this season's barely half done).
I'm personally a bit more concerned about the other part of this team-up. I really hope that the future of the MCU doesn't erase the Cloak and Dagger series on Freeform. I'd consider it a treat if Olivia Hole and Aubrey Joseph were to appear, for example, in an episode or two of Moon Knight or She-Hulk.
And by the way, I think Cary's got something there. Some sort of conflict between Lexcorp and Roxxon -- such as an attempted takeover -- might make for an interesting cover.
*oops -- I meant Olivia Holt. #HowEmbarrassing
ReplyDeleteWith a wife and kid, I don't see Ryan Choi on the Waverider. I wouldn't be surprised to have him get a job at Star Labs Metropolis and become the resident tech geek on Clark&Lois.
ReplyDeleteOr his son become a tech geek on Canaries.
@Horsefeathers: from what I read, it was mostly Routh's decision. He wants to do other work (back to movies?) and he felt the writers had gone a little to far into turning Ray into a one-note character. The PWB knew he was leaving when they brought Zari's brother (who I can't warm up to at all) on board.
ReplyDelete@Jay Johnson From what I've read neither he nor his wife wanted to go. The writers couldn't script a happy loving couple on that show? I do find it odd that the CW gets rid of two Superman actors in the same week.
ReplyDelete@Isaac: Did I miss something? As far as I know, Tyler Hoechlin is still Superman.
ReplyDeleteOn a related note, someone made a comment the other day about aliens in Central City and Star City (though the list really should've been Central City, Gotham, and Freeland). To my mind, that's less significant (since they could be there but just not doing things that affect the respective show's stories) than how Obsidian, a supposedly global phenomenon, might affect the goings-on in Gotham and Central City. I think the writers on Batwoman and The Flash are arguably missing a great opportunity to tie in with Supergirl without having to do any crossover casting. (Of course, I could be wrong; such stories might be among the remaining episodes. I hope so!)
Bob, Dean Cain's role as Kara's Earth father came to an end when it was announced that the character had died.

Diff track - CW's post Crisis Earth - problem g a p : Supergirl had aliens come to Earth 38. Barry & Oliver did NOT have regular aliens on their Earth. ( tho 'alien
Earthlings' from parallel Earths kinda maybe counts.)
Now, Supergirl still has aliens coming to her show. These aliens need to pop up around all the cities and shows...including Barry's and Oliver's. And they should have been around for a couple years on this new Earth. Agent Liberty should have been traveling around the whole country, not just National City.

Is there any storyline that is directly affecting more than JUST one series' shows?
yep, it's a NEW EARTH. Supergirl, Flash and Batwoman. Arrow if the pilot sells. Hard to tell with DC Legends.
ReplyDeleteD'oh! I watched that episode (where Jeremiah Danvers' death was revealed) and somehow didn't connect it with Isaac's comment.
ReplyDelete@Final Jeopardy!: Green Arrow and the Canaries is confirmed, but takes place 20 years in the future. Superman & Lois is also confirmed, and takes place on the same Earth and in the same time frame as The Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman, and Black Lightning. (Legends of Tomorrow takes place mostly on the same Earth, but jumps around the timeline.)
@Detective Tobor: The old "why didn't call for help against " question / problem has been around since the Avengers and JLA started, with the usual "Off World", "Already busy", "I can handle it" excuses. That's why I loved it when Green Arrow just yelled for Clark when Yet Another of his Sidekicks (I forget which one) got hurt bad.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's already been biting the Arrowverse. Black Lightning didn't call Flash or Supergirl for help against Gravedigger? Obsidian and Luthor not a Super-Friends worthy threat? I can see Team Flash not calling anybody else with the Speed Force problem, Kate keeping the "Gotham is MY city" tradition, and with Oliver gone nobody really trusts the Legends not to screw up, but Kara and Barry should be everywhere (or at least a couple of lines of dialog about why they weren't called).
@Jay: I can see BL not calling on outside help against Gravedigger; there's some (at least somewhat justified) reluctance on the part of black communities to call on outside help from whites. Why he didn't discuss the problems in Freeland with his new friends before going back is a mystery to me (other than story purposes), and at least Mr. Terrific could have given some aid even if he didn't come in person.
ReplyDeleteBut Team Flash certainly could call Brainiac 5 about the Speed Force problem (though he'd probably give it a pass, hiding his reluctance to do so). We may yet get a line or two about Cisco talking to Curtis or Felicity.
What I was thinking, though, was that Barry or Cisco could try to use Obsidian tech to run simulations on the Speed Force problem, possibly running into a similar kind of situation that Alex just did, and come out of it with helpful data on both problems.

ReplyDeleteOnly if their business rival was Lexxoff.
Nah! That kind of rivalry would only serve to attract the attention of Karate Kid. ;-D
