I think this would be an interesting pairing. Rex Mason and Flint Marko both seem like regular hard working blue collar guys who have undergone amazing alterations to their bodies' chemistry. Rex chose to be a hero, although he has had temptations to go over to the wrong side of the law. Flint engaged in a life of crime, but his heroic aspirations still come through from time to time. They really aren't that different from one another.
wow, Ross, another one of those perfect "Why didn't i think of this one before now?" covers that seem to always come up with.....
ReplyDeletekudos to a true master of the arts.....
Judging by that smug leer on his face, Simon Stagg had something to do with this change of circumstance.
ReplyDeleteAnother corny(?) cover could have the Great Gazoo in Fred Flintstone's house but about (at least) to realize he's in another dimension when he sees an aerodactyl as a pet and checks the working parts of the oven and refrigerator; in other words, he's in a pokemon-populated version of Bedrock!
ReplyDeleteIt does seem to me that a right-side-of-the-law bully is kind of Flint's most comfortable turf story-wise, though as a character he's often more of (like you say, Ross) a crook with the heart of a hero.
ReplyDeleteHe might also make an interesting villain for the Expansion Team, should you ever revisit that group.
How about Doctor Fate and Ka-Zar? Nabu meets Zabu.
ReplyDeleteExcellent work.
ReplyDeleteI think it's more a question of how much each of them is willing to self sacrifice, if it came to that. Flint finally revealed he had a daughter, but that didn't seem to matter much on the day by day. Rex has seem to be more dependable when the chips were down.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmmmmmm! I'll bet this little scenario is the handiwork of the Psycho-Pirate and (Spidey's other foe) the Chameleon.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bart! Always loved your rendition of Rex!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous - Psycho Pirate..... Qu'est-ce que c'est
ReplyDeleteA Silver Age super-villain who can cause people in general (and "meddling" superheroes, in particular) feel whatever emotions he simulates on the magical Mask of Medusa. Which, if I recall correctly, was a golden face plate thingie he was given by the original Psycho-Pirate.*
ReplyDelete*A Golden Age criminal mastermind who was an expert at psychological manipulation. Even to the point of fooling the JSA!
P.S.---for those who aren't bilingual, Isaac's French interrogative is pronounced "kiss-kiss-say." Rough translation: "say what?"
ReplyDelete2nd P.S.---can you imagine what the public announcement would sound like if this quartet were waiting for a restaurant dinner table under Simon's name?
ReplyDelete"Stagg! Party of four? Stagg! Party of four!"
Morpheus vs Sandman (villain) vs Golden Age Sandman would be fun. :)
