The Addams Family in The House of Mystery

I have not seen the most recent Addams Family theatrical release, but I am interested to check it out.  It looks like it was made to appeal to a younger audience, which is fine.  The draw for me is that I really appreciate the designs of the animated characters.  They look very close to the cartoons of Chas Addams, where the creepy and kooky family got their start.  I appreciate it when adaptations stick so close to the source material.

  1. Tis no secret or mystery as to how this family got to stay on tv and in the movies for so long. My annoyance is that the other family, the Munsters, have been brought back a few times, but weaker in quality on each new go round.
It would be nice to see Herman and Lily bring them a house warming gift.

  2. Grandpa Munster should marry Grandmama from The Addams Family!

  3. I liked the 1990's Hanna-Barbera cartoon; it has nostalic artwork for the characters, including the neighbors; also, it's too bad the Munsters started out live-action instead of as a cartoon (animated or not!), like the Addams Family.

  4. I once did a fanfic where Pugsley Addams had married Tabitha Stephens, Wednesday Addams had married Eddie Munster, and Marilyn Munster had married the auto-mechanic-turned-government superhero, Mr. Terrfic!

The most fun I've ever had, posting an on-line pastiche. :-)

As to the new feature film? I haven't seen it, yet, myself. But, rumor has it that it's supposed to be a prequel to the original TV series. Depicting, among other "Things," how the Addamses first moved into their domicile and how they first hired Lurch to be their butler.

  5. This cover is one of your best works yet, Ross. I can't tell where one artist's work ends and the next begins.

As for the new Addams Family movie, it's looking like I'll have to wait for it to come out on home video. That's mostly for financial reasons; given the choice, I'd go to my usual second-Wednesday matinee.

Anon@9:37 has a good point about the Munsters; the Addams family had some popularity already, and Charles Addams was actively involved in the show's development. The Munsters was just as fun as a show, but didn't have those benefits.

@Cary: I'd love to see that fanfic made into a comic.

@Ross: That Mr. Terrific that Cary mentioned, from the 60 TV show, would be great to see teamed up with either of the DC heroes who use that name, if you can get appropriate images. (If all else fails, maybe you could use the Arrowverse's Mr. Terrific.)

  6. Thank you! And you even included some original Chas. Addams art to make this monsterpiece. I knew this would be an impressive undertaking thanks to your s-kills.

  9. I, and my family, really enjoyed the movie. Most of the complaints I heard were from people who expected the 60's TV characters and did not get that these were the old-school, New Yorker Addams Family. It had a good message, too.

I sort of have a time-share arrangment with Ordinaryguy2 @ Fanfiction.net. He updates his stories whenever I have writers' block...and he updates my stories when he has writers' block!

  14. I think I've just figured out who the Silent Partners have taking care of things back at the base: Lurch. (Probably with assistance from Thing.)

Their foe in an upcoming adventure: Chemo!
