I really hope that Mister Miracle is done justice in the New Gods movie (which I assume is still happening - I haven't heard much news about if since the directorial announcement). His colorful costume is a must, complete with cape and mask - hopefully it will not just appear once for a performance scene. Then, we have to have some cool deathtraps for him to escape from, the more Kirbylike in design, the better. Finally, hes got to have great chemistry with a statuesque actress playing Big Barda. Check off those three boxes and I will be a happy viewer.
The point will be moot if Arcade lives up to his boasting, Ross. :-(
ReplyDeleteWell, something's up with Mister Miracle, Ross; Thaddeus Brown has been name-dropped twice now on The Flash, so there may be a Mister Miracle somewhere in the future.
ReplyDeleteAs for this cover, it does look like Scott's in a lot of trouble -- though I barely qualify as even a casual fan of Mister Miracle, I'd be quite interested in reading this story. (One quibble, though: in a "versus" tale, the hero should always get top billing over the villain!)
that's a bunch of advertisements that Viviene has listed. Is Flunky Flashman here too?
ReplyDeleteThis is such a delightfully natural team up that I'm sure DeSaad is involved somehow. You okay, Ross? Being held against your will? Mention your first team up so we'll know it's really you.
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda hoping for the New Gods movie, but it's SO much story to tell in 2½ hours that I'm not sure it will be satisfying.
Does Marvel have their own master escape artist like Scott? A competition between Barda and She-Hulk might be interesting too. This is a fun cover that is not like most Marvel or DC covers. And I loved the Arcade/Joker cover you delivered.
ReplyDeleteI'm doubtful about the NEW GODS movie, given the track record of DCU films and the past work of director Ava Duvernay. The fact that abyssmal hack Tom King is writing the screenplay only makes things worse, as it means the whole film will be about trauma and PTSD, the only subjects King is capable of writing about. What we'll probably get is a character dressed entirely in black - maybe with some red or green highlights - no mask, a bad attitude, and aero disks. If we're lucky, we'll see him escape from a pair of handcuffs at a critical point in the movie. As amassive MISTER MIRACLE fan, I find the prospect of what is likely to be done to the character extremely disappointing.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see Gina Carano (Deadpool) as Barda.
ReplyDeleteI was gonna say that I'm not optimistic about the movie & why, but John Petty beat me to it in every way. King's series has made it so we can't really tell Kirby-esque Mister Miracle stories until that overblown mess is finally forgotten. Unfortunately, a lot of people think it's the best comic ever written, so we're gonna be stuck with it.
ReplyDeleteCould be worse, guys. Oberon could be turned into a French bulldog who talks with a Yiddish accent!
ReplyDeleteOff the above topic: I just came across something comparing Squirrel Girl with Merry, the Girl of 1,000 Gimmicks. I think they'd be an interesting pair to team up here (though some sort of time-travel thing might be needed for why they're together).

Well, Merry did appear as her older ("present-day") self in one storyline of the 'Young Justice' comic...
(She was part of a group calling themselves 'Old Justice', the rest of them former sidekicks, who had organised to object publicly to the continued involvement of youngsters in crimefighting.)
Where were they when the Teen Titans needed them? Oh, that's right!
ReplyDeleteFighting supernatural menaces that seemed drawn to Loren Jupiter like iron filings to a magnet.
Simreeve: Hence the word "might." SG with older Merry might work, but I'd prefer to see the latter in her prime.
ReplyDelete@Bob & Simreeve: it might be do-able. Super Squirrel from Justa Lotta Animals is teleported (by his version of Lex Luthor) to the Earth-STF portion of the Marvel Multiverse. Squirrel Girl tries to help him get home using a modified Doc Doom time platform. But, things go wrong and they wind up in World War II, instead!
ReplyDeleteJust a thought.
@Cary: why not? I can see it now.
ReplyDeleteLex Lemur substitutes Zap-Panda's ruby headdress with a silicon-based, mind-controlling parasite! As a result? On his orders, she gets rid of Super Squirrel "ot ecalpemos ereht si on nruter morf!" With your suggested plot thread being followed thereafter.
The rest, as they say, is literary history.
Cover of the month!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Arcade could team up with Mojo; they're both even in the Marvel Universe.
