The Avengers meet Phantom Stranger & Swamp Thing

It still seems crazy to me that the new Swamp Thing series was cancelled before a single episode aired.  Even if that was the case you would think a cancellation announcement would have been held until it had its complete run.  It's too bad other accommodations could not be made for filming, from the little I have seen it looked like a pretty cool show. One of these day's I'll have to binge watch the whole thing.

Swamp Thing met the New Avengers in STF #1241...

  1. My favorite team of Avengers...plus one of my favorite swamp monsters. Nerding out right now.

  2. Whoa! What could possibly be up for The Avengers to meet BOTH The Phantom Stranger and Swamp Thing?!

  3. Wow! Fantastic cover today. Really, really great.

You have no idea how much I want to get to the universe where this comic exists. Great job, Ross.

  4. Maybe the Construct is after Sequoia (the son Mantis gave birth to, in the Late Silver Age DCU, when she called herself "Willow"). Hoping to rule the Marvel Multiverse through him!

As for the Swamp Thing reboot being cancelled before it even aired? I'm afraid that's nothing new. NBC did the same thing to SNIP (a sitcom inspired by the Warren Beatty/Goldie Hawn film "Shampoo") back in the early Seventies! Their "reason?"

    Allegedly too racy.

That was the same excuse used by ABC in the late Sixties when they cancelled a certain variety show hosted by Tim Conway. But, at least, with regard to that one, they waited till after the first fifteen minutes of the series premiere before doing so!

  5. The reason for the cancellation, of course, was that someone in the North Carolina government determined that the amount that the production was owed in reimbursements was far less than what DC had understood -- something along the lines of 10% vs. 50%. It thus became no longer financially viable for DC to continue the show -- they couldn't do it at anything close to the quality they'd established, especially in terms of both VFX and actors' salaries. The result, of course, is a loss for all parties involved.

In my case, the real draw for DC Universe is Doom Patrol. I still expect to take a good look at all the other live-action DC shows on there, though, including Swamp Thing. Hopefully the PTB will be able to figure out a way to keep the show's characters going by way of either Titans/Doom Patrol or (less likely) the Arrowverse.

PS: In the Annals of Bad Superhero Costumes, this one of Yellowjacket's deserves at least an Honorable (or Dishonorable) Mention -- unless, of course, those massive shoulder flaps (!) are for considerably more than just decoration.

    1. I think they also used to increase the strength of his strings by building up a charge. This Perez commission demonstrates

  8. @Cary and Ross: now, there's a frightening thought. The Construct out to take over the Marvel Multiverse. Possibly, through the YJ version of Hank Pym (and an STF version of the MCU-Ultron)!

  9. @Anonymous515: not so frightening. It'd make a great premise for one of the next Marvel Films. Ultron seeks revenge by using a mind-controlled Hank Pym to develop a swarm of robot yellowjackets which then go out to sting as many people as possible. The stingers carrying mind-controlling nanobots like the one in Pym's head!

  10. @Anon: I think you meant "stings."

Unless Yellowjacket is secretly being controlled by the Puppet Master. LOL!

  11. "The Construct"... there's a name I haven't read in a while...

  12. Me, either! Of all the worthy concepts DC has yet to revive, a sentient energy being, composed of all the man-made signals floating around in Earth's atmosphere, is the most fascinating.

  13. How about it, Ross? Wouldn't the Construct make an ideal foe for Magnus the Robot Fighter (if nobody else)?
