Legion of Super-Pets and Tintin

I got a kick out of the fact that Krypto went through the effort of having a secret identity back in the Bronze Age.  In addition to removing his cape and collar, he would create brown spots on his fur with Pa Kent's wood stain - just in case anyone might see a white pooch and realize that he is the dog of steel!  Well, I suppose he couldn't just put on a pair of glasses!

  1. My favourite incident involving Krypto occurred when the 'Connor Kent' version of Superboy moved to Smallville... and Krypto brought a heap of Connor's old opponents there (including at least one whom he had to abduct from jail for this!) so that Connor would still have them to "play" with...

    ^_^

But this picture is good, too.

  2. Cool cover, Ross! Great placement of all the characters, so that it actually looks like this is how it was all intended!

I was fond of Krypto's solo adventures in the Silver and Bronze ages. We got a look at Krypto's human-level intelligence (which, given Superman's marginally superhuman intelligence, makes sense) despite his inability to speak (which is also realistic; dogs' mouths are just not built for human speech, though a few have managed a few words).

Still hoping to someday see the LSP with the Pet Avengers.

Also, Tintin could meet Rin Tin Tin. I originally suggested that for issue #1010, but you could still make it work on 10/10 (10th of October).

  3. There have been so many variations of Krypto introduced and Killed off since his 1950s intro, I would hate to try and chart them.
Like how Streaky was mentioned on Supergirl's show.
Comet's true id of being semi human was a bit of a jolt and a surprise of how future planning DC could get.
    Bebbo keeps being forgotten.
Too bad you couldn't cameo Super-turtle and Supermouse as well.

    Cover design: BIG smile.

  4. "I suppose he couldn't just put on a pair of glasses!"

Except for that time with the Space Canine Patrol Agents, where Krypto needed to disguise himself so he used the spare Clark Kent glasses he kept in the pocket of his cape.

Silver Age Superman comics were *WEIRD*.

  5. Well, at least he didn't make brown spots on the fire hydrant.

    ;-)

  7. As to why the Super-pets are on today's cover? Comet probably misunderstood...and thought everyone would be celebrating "Fodder's Day."

  8. @Bob Greenwade: Tintin and Rin-Tin-Tin? Throw in Tin of the Metal Men, Tin-Tin from Thunderbirds, and maybe even the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz, and we've got the makings of a team.

  9. Bob B, you previously suggested the name Tin Titans for this team. https://braveandboldlost.blogspot.com/2016/02/admiral-ackbar-and-doctor-who.html?m=1

  10. I did? The ol' memory is going, I guess.

BTW, why wouldn't Krypto disguise himself with glasses?
