Green Lantern and The Avengers in: "Grundy's Guardian!"

Writer Scott Snyder is bringing Alan Scott and the rest of the original members of the Justice Society back to mainstream DC continuity in the upcoming Justice League: Doom War arc.  It looks as though they will be a version of the team in their prime, as the story will feature characters from different time periods coming together.  There are strong hints that an ongoing series will follow, that will be set during this early days of comics' first superhero team.  Their return has been a long time coming and I have enjoyed Snyder's work on other titles, so I am looking forward to what he has planned.

  1. I'm afraid I'm losing trust in some of DC's writers. Last time I saw any JSA member is of course, in the current Watchmen spinoff, Doomsday Clock. But aside from that, it was Jay's cameo popping in from the unknown (just like Wally had done before) and Barry having no clue who he was.

Guess it's hard to have a real history when the past timelines keep getting screwed around with. And just think, they used to be set in stone. If you can't have a new parallel world, then change the timeline...who's gonna know? 😠

  2. As someone with a number of JSA related items on my walls I will be very happy about it. The treatment of the JSA was part of the reason I quit buying DC comics. The endless waves of rewrites were another reason and he seems to be one who wants to rewrite history to gain short term sales leaving results for others to clean up.

  3. Have to say, Ross, I. love this cover. It looks like the action is taking place in a public sports area rather than a generic disaster area to be. Alan & the Avengers look like they really belong together. If Disney ever buys DC, then maybe your covers can give them a full library of ideas to create new stories on.

  4. Hmmm! I wonder if GL Scott is trying to keep Grundy from being used by Nekron as a way of getting a toe hold on Marvel Earth-616 Assuming, of course, that this particular story isn't taking place in Universe-STF!

  5. P.S.--I have to agree with Glenn and det_Tobor. The JSA (in their prime or not) being reactivated on the same Earth as the Justice League...is getting twice as unlikely as the mass marketing of WAR OF THE INDEPENDENTS #5!

  6. Interesting lineup of Avengers for this one, Ross. Starfox is on the top of my "WTF is he doing in the Avengers?" list.

  7. I'm not familiar with Starfox. I just assumed it was a misplaced Timber Wolf from the Legion!

  8. @the good doctor: In the comics, he's the brother of Thanos and the son of Mentor A'lars (ruler of the Saturnian moon, Titan). His real name is Eros, but The Wasp code-named him "Starfox" when he joined the Avengers in the 1980's. Among other powers, he can psionically lure women's attention. Mostly, to himself! But, occasionally (when he plays at being an "unselfish" match-maker), to other men, as well.

"Alan Scott ain't gay. He has kids...." Riiiight because no gay person has ever had children.

  10. @Biff: much as you and I wish otherwise, I think Jade and Obsidian are still doomed to remain in publishing limbo (even if the JSA do get rebooted). That is; unless DC listens to TJW's suggestion and make the Golden Age GL a bisexual.

  11. Marvel attempted it with Freedom Ring. The writers had him bite the altruistic dust within a year. Two, at the most!

  12. Hmmm! If Karl Lykos was to latch on to that little piece of jewelry, would that make it..."The Free, Dum Ring of Sauron?"

  15. I wasn't suggesting that DC do anything with the golden age Green Lantern. I was simply pointing out that arguing that a character (or a real life person) can't be gay if they have children is dubious....
