Solomon Grundy and Morbius

With the surprise success of Venom, it looks like other Spider-Man spinoff movies will gain some steam.  Morbius with Jared Leto in the title role has been announced, and that may have potential to be cool.  And if it means that Let is to busy to ever reprise his role as The Joker again, I am OK with that as well.

  1. Next month is Popeye's 90th birthday. Could he share a cover with the Swamp Thing?

  2. Or Popeye with Ghost Rider. The Spirit of Vengeance meets the Spinach of Vengeance...

  3. Oh, come on, Ross! Why so serious?

  4. Or Popeye the Sailor and Sinbad the Sailor (the H-B version with the magic belt) vs. The Champion of the Universe!*

    *Pugilistic "brother" of the Grandmaster.

  5. Popeye the Sailor Moon, perhaps?

But on topic with the cover: I was just thinking that something with Morbius and Stripperella, though an incredibly unlikely pair, would make for a fun pun: "Morbius Strip!"

In my opinion, Leto's Joker suffered not from his performance, which I thought was OK in itself, but from bad writing and directoral choices. The character just wasn't even trying to be funny, even in his usual sick way. Even an exploding whoopee cushion would've been an improvement.

  6. I just saw a post on Facebook that gave me a crossover idea: Mary Jane Watson and Tawky Tawny in "Face It, Tiger..."

  7. How about a re-enactment of a certain Man-Bat-oriented cover of Detective Comics? But, with Batman trying to protect an unconscious Stripperlla from Morbius?

  8. @Anonymous: if you're referring to DETECTIVE COMICS (v.1) #429, I think Ross already did one like that. Involving a post-Defenders Nighthawk!

  10. If you do decide to do a cover commemorating Popeye's 90th birthday, the obvious choice for a partner is Mickey Mouse who is also celebrating his 90th birthday this year.

    "Micskey, ya doesn't look a day ov'r sevensty-five!"

"Thanks! Same to you, Sailor Boy!"

  12. A couple of other fun suggestions:

Wile E Coyote and the Flash.
Thanos and his new herald, Thomas the Tank Engine.
Betty Boop and Death from the Endless.

And later next year will be the 80th anniversary of the first appearance of the Ultra-Humanite, one of the few villains who may still survive young and strong after all these years.

  15. Kid C: I know about that, and there are several artists who have taken that plunge. In fact, I linked one of them just the other day (I'm not sure whether it's the same one as you just did). But I can just envision Access creating this amalgamation and thinking, "I immediately regret this decision."

  16. On the other hand, if the Inheritors were to follow Access to Earth-Inferior 5 (homeworld of the arachnid avenger known as the Cobweb Kid)...?

  17. @Bob Greenwade: didn't Popeye finally prove that the Moon is inhabited by green cheese men ruled by a tyrant who dips non-taxpayers in hot mustard?
