Back in STF #950, which featured a New Mutants/ New Teen Titans team up, I included a back up story that starred Warlock and Cyborg. I had always meant to flesh out that tale for a cover all its own, and now I have finally gotten around to it. It's interesting to me that both Warlock from the New Mutants and Adam Warlock each have arch enemies named The Magus.
A Warlock and Cyborg team-up???? Yet another one of those "Why didn't I think of it" moments here.
ReplyDeleteI'd have to imagine combining Phalanx tech with Cyborg's Human tech/Apokoliptian tech hybrid would undoubtedly give those the two the edge in this fight. Absolutely has to.
And yes, the fact that both Warlock's have arch-enemies named Magus is defintiely an interesting fact. Too bad Pat Mills' Nemesis the Warlock character couldn't have been included, having a foe named Magus. I think his second wife Magna, who betrayed him in the end, is two letters off.
Oh, man! A pun on that old Bob Dylan song would've made such a great title for this cover.
ReplyDelete"Everybody Must Get Stone."
Only problem is that I already used that title when Thor and Green Lantern battled a living Easter Island in STF #649...
ReplyDelete@Ross: Surely that's far enough back that the pun would be public domain, now.

According to Louise Simonson, The New Mutants Warlock and Magus was a deliberate tip of the creative hat to Jim Starlin's Adam Warlock and his future self the Magus. Another great cover, Ross! -- Gregg
