Hercules and Mary Marvel

Shazam! has finished filming and now the movie is in the visual effects stage, so hopefully there will be enough completed to show us some footage soon.  The film promises to finally have some lighter fare in contrast to the heavy goings-on that we have seen in the DCEU thus far, so I have hope that it will mark a turning point and strike a positive chord with audiences.

  1. "Lighter fare," huh?

How about Ryan Reynolds as Dr. Sivana? Think about it! Smooth out the facial wrinkles, exhibited in all the trailers for DEADPOOL 2; add a white lab smock and a pair of pince-nez glasses; and voila!

Instant mad scientist (with a mouth).

  2. Hmmm... Too tall (then again so is Mark Strong) - maybe Jackie Earl Haley?

  3. Mary actually gets her strength from Hippolyta, but that's not really important. She can be allowed that much dramatic license, and this is still a cool cover.

Casting Dr. Thaddeus Sivana: How about Martin Short? He's not particularly tall, and is a much better actor than most people give him credit for.

    1. THE POWER OF SHAZAM ongoing of the 90's showed Mary drawing power from the same deities/demigods/heroes as Billy.

  4. If the CW ever gets the Marvel family (I hope), Marrin Short it is!

  5. Dr. Sivana didn't wear pince-nez glasses. Perhaps you were thinking of Mr. Mind.

I think that Martin Short would be a brilliant choice to play Sivana. If he is unavailable, I'd suggest Arte Johnson.

  8. On a lighter note, Ross: how about a singing trio composed of Carol Danvers, Mary Batson, and Kamala Khan? You could call them...The Marvelettes!

  11. @Ross @Cary @Bob They've already cast Dr Sivana as the main antagonist of the SHAZAM film. He'll be protrayed by Mark Strong.

  12. Well, there's always the Arrowverse.

Oh, and Ross: Kamala Khan would be a very welcome sight. Maybe you can team her up with Supergirl to try to locate a missing Carol Danvers, or something.

  14. @Anonymous #2: remember Agent Merlin from the KINGSMEN movies? That's him.

  15. That guy? He's too tall to play Sivana! He must have five inches on Martin Short, at least. :-(

  16. Well, if it helps, just think of it this way. A madly scientific genius like Sivana could easily invent a means to biochemically induce a minor growth spurt!

  17. Mark Strong also played Sinestro in the 2011 Green Lantern movie.

  18. @BB: Really? I wonder how long he had to sit in the make-up chair for that reddish skin dye? ;-)
