I'm sure it's still a long way off, but casting suggestions for a new Fantastic Four film are starting to come in already. One that has me interested is the husband and wife team of John Krasinski and Emily Blunt for Reed and Sue, which could work, I think. Zac Ephron for Johnny maybe? Ben should be CGI, but you'll need someone with a great Brooklyn accent - maybe Bobby Cannavale?

ReplyDeleteOutside of Cena (While he does have the body and can act, he's not THAT good yet) I'm down for those suggestions. Hopefully if those choices are legit, we'll finally get a FF movie that doesn't get shit on.
ReplyDeleteI like Emily Blunt, but I've always thought that Susan should be in her late twenties at most. By the time the movie rolls out, Blunt will be 40, and in this fan's opinion, that's too old for that particular role.

First, this is an excellent cover, both artistically (yet another that looks like a unit piece) and dramatically (the story looks like it'd be a real corker).
ReplyDeleteCary's suggestion of Carmine Giovanozzo as Ben Grimm is a decent one, and not just for the accent. The guy's got pretty decent dramatic chops and comic timing, as well as a fit frame. He'd be believable both for pre-transformation Ben and mocap post-transformation. (Motion capture is "what they've been doing with The Hulk.")
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson could probably be more true to Ben's original look (non-Thing Ben was always big and beefy), but could he manage a believable accent? I've no idea.
(Of course, Ulysses Klaue notwithstanding, mocap these days seems to be mostly a Serkis act.) #BadPunNoCookie
I personally would be less impressed with teaming Sue's actress with her real-life husband than with her real-life brother. I have no idea who that would suggest, though.
Side note: As I recall, when Michael Chiklis played Ben Grimm, the foam suit was done at his insistence; he didn't want the Thing to be the product of CGI, which was still rather nascent at the time. (As far as that goes, I think it was the right decision; compare his look with what had just been done with the Hulk.) He only started to regret the decision the first time he needed to use the toilet.
Interesting cover concept; I could see Johnny and Booster getting along.
ReplyDeleteBased on the terrible origin I see them needing a new origin movie but if it is not going to be closer to original origin WHY BOTHER? Just make it they are four mutated lab monkeys shot into space or something. Nothing extra is needed like the whole Doctor Doom connection to origin with him getting powers as well.
Having the them being revived after property was returned to Marvel shows Marvel really hated movie and thought it damaged the Fantastic Four.

ReplyDeleteFor a new F4 origin movie, I'd recommend closely following the Ultimate Universe tale: Reed develops a teleportation device that accidentally opens a portal into Annihilus' realm. Let Dr. Doom wait until the first sequel.

ReplyDeleteEfron is far too old for the role (he's 30). Krasinski and Blunt could be fine but not particularly exciting to me; Blunt is okay, but Krasinski would likely want to direct after the success of A Quiet Place, to be honest. Bobby Cannavale would be great casting, but he's already in Ant-Man, so that seems unlikely.

ReplyDeleteAnd for Reed, Andrew Licoln seems like a good choice - as much as I like Krasinski. Mr. Fantastic should be a little more serious than Tony Stark.
