This was a pairing that I had always meant to get to in my
MTIO: The Lost Issues days, but never did. I still think that a hero that has powers, but only for an hour at a time could make for a great series - it's too bad that Hourman was completely wasted on DC's
Legends of Tomorrow, and we never even got to see that aspect of his abilities.
I think Ben 10, at least in his earlier days, is a variant, as his omnitrix powers were also temporary.
ReplyDeleteI always thought that Hourman would have fit well as part of the Marvel Universe. If he had been, I could see them pairing him with the Thing in MTIO or even Spidey in MTU. Perhaps he might have even been an Avenger in that scenario. For me, however, there is something about seeing him with Dr. Strange, Hulk, Namor and Valkyrie as a Defender that seems fascinating to me. It's fun speculation in any case. Thank you, Ross!
ReplyDelete@fellow Anon: Ben's powers are still only temporary. What intrigued me abiut him was that he had an infinite number of powers and abilities that would put heavy hitters in DC and Marvel to shame - he just can't use all of them at the same time!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, great title pun and cover!

Don't the 'Dial H for Hero' powers only work for an hour at a time, too?

Have you used the third Hourman, the android version, yet? I think that he'd make an interesting associate for the Vision...
Here's another cool team-up that I never would have thought of!
ReplyDeleteOn DC's Legends of Tomorrow, there is a period of time between when Vixen left (and presumably returned, to have a daughter and granddaughter), and when the Justice Society were scattered through time. Hourman could very well show up during that period, especially should Maisie Richardson-Sellers decide to leave the show (marking a good time to return Vixen to her original time period).
ReplyDeleteThat aside, I do think that this is a cool cover that would have worked well during your MTIO days. I also think that Rex would work well with Wonder Man (I'm not sure what prompts that thought, though I'm imagining Simon in his red-jacket outfit).
Hmmmm! Given the grayish color of their clothes, I'd say the Bad Guys are convicts attempting to escape. Given Ben Grimm's involvement, I'd say that they're probably ex-members of the Yancy Street Gang. And, given Hour Man's involvement, I'd say that they're probably hyped up on stolen Miraclo!*
ReplyDelete*See STF #1385.
OOPS! My bad: that's STF #1383.
ReplyDeleteThe French TV anime characters Miraculous Ladybug and Chat Noir have a limited span of time in which to use their powers. It's a charming and sometimes witty show, and the animation is spectacular.
ReplyDelete@simreeve: In the 1980s Dial H series, the transformations only lasted an hour. In the 1960s series, and the 2002 revival, they lasted until the dialer dialed him/herself back. I don't remember how it worked in the New 52 series.
