This cover comes about as the result of a conversation in the comments section. I liked the idea of a live-action Defenders team, but I still wanted to honor the cross-company aspect f this blog. With that in mind, I added in Batman - because Batman goes with everybody! Justice League may have missed the mark, but I'm thinking this could be a true blockbuster!
Batman and The Defenders met in a more traditional comic way back in my B&B: The Lost Issues days...
replacing namor with man from atlantis pure genius
ReplyDelete;) Awesome! But who's that "cos-player"? Everybody knows Batman was played by Adam West. HA! Just kidding. I love the photo covers that show live action adaptations. It's a shame Patrick Duffy's Namor, The Sub-Mariner was all too quickly canceled... ;)
ReplyDeleteSince Nighthawk was originally based on Batman, it works. But, where's Val?
ReplyDeleteThe Batman/Nighthawk connection is definitely a great subtle homage. And thanks for the Man from Atlantis nod! Glad to know my terrible ideas are still inspirational XD
ReplyDeleteFantastic! This looks awesome and could be a great movie.
ReplyDeleteIs that the T1000 playing Silver Surfer?
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed!
ReplyDeleteI remember all of these fondly, except the Silver Surfer. Where is his image from?
ReplyDeleteGreat cover Ross, but why not use a Silver Surfer image from the FF movie?
ReplyDelete@Matt and Isaac: That's an adaptation of Robert Patrick's T-1000 character (from TERMINATOR 2) in polymimetic alloy form. Ross probably couldn't find a solo image of the Silver Surfer from FF2 (just promotional group shots). So, he improvised with the next best thing. And, brilliantly so, I might add!
ReplyDeleteI think the Man from Atlantis filling in for Namor (opposite Peter Hooten's Dr. Strange and Lou Ferrigno's Hulk) is equally brilliant. Which leaves me just one question: is that the Keaton Batman or the Bale Batman?
The decision to trim length and forced director change certainly hurt the Justice League but "missing the mark" is due to some were pushing for it to be something it was not intending on being. It hit the mark a lot better than Iron Man 2 & Thor 2.
ReplyDeleteClever, very, very clever cover there Ross. Love it. Well-done sir. More like this please.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Batman does seem to go with everything, just like the color black ;)
I have to agree with Glenn. JUSTICE LEAGUE THE MOVIE certainly hammered the crap out of THOR: RAGNAROK as far as I'm concerned!
ReplyDeleteWhat Glenn and Anon said.
ReplyDeleteP.S @ Alaric: she was probably still just a gleam in Odin's good eye.
ReplyDeleteCOVER OF THE MONTH!
ReplyDelete...i agree with everyone else, this is a great cover for the "Defenders Initiative"...
ReplyDelete...but what happened to David Hasselhoff's 'Nick Fury'???
Ross you are the best...
@jack-el --
ReplyDeleteNick Fury has never really been associated with the Defenders so he'd be out of place in this one. Plus as Ross pointed out, it's a crossover themed blog so Batman is the better choice (and as mentioned, Batman filling in as Nighthawk counterpart is a perfect twist)
Though as a future photo movie cover, Nick Fury vs James Bond (Dawn of Bondsmen, perhaps?)
ReplyDeleteOr Ron Ely's Doc Savage with Reb Brown's Captain America or Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman
@ Mike Shirley: Or, best of all, all three of the latter!
