I have always really liked The Royal Flush Gang. I find it cool that the team has gone through so many incarnations, from the old West to present day, often with mysterious leaders/benefactors pulling the strings. Plus, the family aspect to the group adds a different dynamic than most villainous gatherings. The DC animated shows did some really interesting things with them as well.
Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI really liked The Joker's connection to The Gang on the Justice League series. That was a really cool episode.
Happy New Year!
Another great cover!
ReplyDeleteThanks for these, really enjoy them.
Cool cover.
ReplyDeleteI've always had a fondness for the Royal Flush Gang as well.
One of the few bright points of the 2nd Crisis was the King telling Joker that no one wanted to play with a joker in the deck.
Happy New Year's Eve!
Ah! Another cover that I suggested (though only once and quite a while ago, so I doubt that you'd remember it, Ross)! The layout is also well-done enough to have been a unit piece, drawn for this purpose.
ReplyDeleteLike Alena, I did love King telling Joker that no one wanted to play with the Joker -- "Because this Joker's a little too wild." I also remember a Silver Age story where the Joker stood in, disguised as Ace; nobody at the time (that I'm aware of) commented on the fact that, in poker, a joker is good for "aces, straights, and flushes," so in this royal flush the Joker worked as all three.
As for Jack, hopefully at some time in the future we'll get to see him go up against Marsha, Queen of Diamonds.
Another great one Ross. JACK OF HEARTS for the win!
ReplyDeleteHow about a team-up of The CREEPER and PROWLER?
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I always loved Queenie from the Amos Fortune version of the RFG. I'm surprised DC never tried to a Silver Age tale where she attempts to make it a matriarchal outfit! Lord knows, they did it often enough with Pamela Isley in the Bat-comics.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Years Eve, glad you guys liked this one, I had been looking forward to posting it!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of car would the Royal Flush Gang use???
ReplyDelete...a Duece Coup...
Another great cover and idea. I too am a fan of the RFGang.
Happy New Year, Ross...
Hi, Ross. What is the source of the Royal Flush Gang artwork? Ten and Jack and the house of cards remind me of the 1980s outing with Hector Hammond pulling the strings, eventually beaten by Martin Stein, but Ace definitely does not.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Still on the games theme, have you considered doing a cover using Despero in his old chess-playing days, but using, say, the Avengers or the Marvel Family as pieces?
Anon, the RFG imagie is from a Who's Who entry and the hous of cards BG is from the Super Friends Cartoon Show. JOH is from a Silver Surfer Cover.
ReplyDeleteI did a riff on that JLA/Despero Chess Cover on a JLA Vs Dr. Doom cover a few years back...
And you did a fantastic job https://braveandboldlost.blogspot.com/2013/07/justice-league-of-america-vs-dr-doom.html. But there are other Despero chess covers if you ever feel like a rematch. I'll check from time to time. Good night.

DeleteBut if you are inspired with the chess theme, I'm sure you'll remember there were other JLA/Despero covers if you check, mate!
Awesome cover....Jack of Hearts is still among my very favorite Marvel characters and is sorely missed by me. I collected a lot of appearances of his.
ReplyDeleteThe Royal Flush Gang would be a worthy foe but Jack would have literally take off his gloves to stop them....
How about Daredevil teams up with the Golden Age Jester (Charles Lane) to rescue the latter's granddaughter, Lois, from Marvel's super-villainous Jester?
