Uncle Scrooge Vs. Superman
Justice League was not as well crafted as Wonder Woman, but it was a marked improvement over Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. I found the plot and villain to be very generic, I wish there had been more surprises there. The Flash's costume did not work at all for me and I felt Quicksilver had better speed effects. Ezra Miller was engaging I guess, but did not look or sound like any Barry Allen I ever read in the comics. Same for Jason Mamoa - an entertaining performance, but he didn't look or behave like Aquaman from the comics. I thought that Cyborg was well done, but it should have been Green Lantern or Martian Manhunter in his place, let him graduate to the JLA, not found it. The action was great, even though much of it under the red skies looked pretty video-gamey. The saving grace for the movie is Superman. When he finally returns, we get to see the hero we have been waiting three movies for (hard not to smile during the first credits scene). So, even though the movie suffered from the director switch and is far from perfect, it leaves things in a place that gives me optimism for the future.

ReplyDeleteThank you!!!! #CyborgIsATitan
I have not seen Justice League - I want to - long story: busy life with teenagers and work.
I don't understand why they didn't used Grant Gustin. Warner Bros./DC says they don't want to copy Marvel's blueprint, but they are doing it enough. Justice League looks like it wants to be The Avengers.
I still think they should have adapted Liberty and Justice. That would have been the perfect response to The Avengers.
To answer your question: Because WB/DC didn't want to incorporate the Arrowverse shows in to the DC Movieverse.
DeleteSee, now I want to see a Scrooge, Iron Man, and Batman cover: "Battle of the Billionaires!"
ReplyDeleteDave - as for Liberty and Justice, wait all the way until after the credits for an extra scene that may interest you...
ReplyDeleteIs that a money bin SUPERMAN has?
ReplyDeleteHow about a Space Family Robinsons/Gilligan's Island crossover.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing the JLA onscreen at last. There were some nits but overall a good ride. Some points: yea; for all of Steppenwolf's power, he was totally unimpressive. I'm torn; I like the old guard but also like seeing new blood. I see can where Green Lantern could been used but i think it would have showed his power in a somewhat diluted form as to give the others a chance to shine. That and the supposed failure of the GL film kept him out. The Manhunter From Mars had no chance since he's had too little media exposure and any appearance here would seem "out of thin air." Finall, while I'm 'armored out,' I liked that one of the JLA was nervous about combat.
ReplyDeleteHaving seen the film, I too found it a major improvement over BVS but not as good as Wonder Woman but though I prefer Cyborg being a Titan in the comics and other stuff, this is the only time that I'm fine with him being a Leaguer.
ReplyDeleteThey wanted a black character in a prominent role, and used Cyborg as he appears in the New 52, one of the most powerful beings on Earth. It could have been John Stewart as Green Lantern instead but audiences already identify GL with Ryan Reynolds.
ReplyDeleteAll in all its a good thing that the comics creators are having more input into the movies. But given the time lag between having a direction in the comics and when the movies finally come out, when there's a major miss-step in the comics direction (the New52 with its alienated Superman, tyro Justice League, etc.) the movies based on it really suffer because the fanboy part of the audience has already moved on from those ideas.
ReplyDeleteI was satisfied with it. Better Cyborg too "early" than Darkseid. The use of Steppenwolf sets the stage for more appearances by the denizens of Kirby's Fourth World! And the red skies kind of served as a harbinger of that precognitive nightmare Bruce Wayne had back in BvS:DOJ
ReplyDeleteI hated Flash - his costume, his personality, his appearance, his attitude, almost everything. Only thing I found was connection to his father which is obvious a story line for Flash movie and and is at least something they took from comics. Flash's costume design is same issue I had with GL's - too busy. The effects were off but that has to do with creators not wanting to copy Quicksilver which is really a copy of the Flash. I cannot see myself paying to see a Flash movie just like I skipped reboot of Spider-Man wisely.
ReplyDeleteWhile Aquaman is not same as in comics, none are. Wonder Woman is 100 years old in Man's World, Superman did not appear in Metropolis first with a scoop on him giving Clark first job with father dead but mother alive, Cyborg looks like a Christmas tree crossed with a robot & Batman has been around 20 years. I have no issue with them spinning movies off JL movie rather than opposite for they had issues other way with Superman and GL.
Aquaman is somewhat like comics but DC movie makers seem to dislike blonde heroes (but love blond heroines even making Batgirl a blah blond) and I read idea that one of producers wanted to make Katana a blond but it was cut off by DC. Aquaman has blond highlights and the armor looks good on him. His personality changes but so does Aquaman in comics. He is not regal but he is not a King yet and learns to be so. I am looking forward to movie including Atlantis and Mera.
Cyborg appearance again is too busy. Victor Stone seems to be in character. He has his key story character in place and his father appears in character. He does feel a bit like Robocop being disconnected from humanity and all. While I do not like Cyborg being founding member of JLA and prefer what they did in animated where Cyborg joined after being key help in big case that is not something DC will change or even think is a mistake and corrected like Superman. This is a movie I may or may not see.
I avoided the previews and did not know they were going to use the "Death of Superman" as part of story. If they were going that route we should have seen people with Superman black armbands; it would have been item they could have sold. I thought combining formation of JL, Death of Superman and Kirby's Fourth World into a movie (the parademons were again too busy) was too much for such a short movie. I knew critics would hate it no matter what it was but there was cheering in movie theatre I was in especially for the big Superman entrance to final battle. I think this definitely helped boost the DC Movieverse.
Why would Superman be after Scrooge McDuck? Did the old codger steal the Bizarro Duplicating Ray in order to create his own Fort Knox?

Maybe he's started hoarding gold kryptonite, because of its rarity value, and Supes wants to make sure that the stuff gets safely disposed of?
@Simreeve: In which case, Supes would probably have to wear a lead-lined version of Steel's exo-skeleton. Or, perhaps, even Lead the Metal Man, himself!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving, dude. :-)
Is that the fortress of dollar-tude?
ReplyDeleteEither that or the Bhat Cave.*
ReplyDelete*Thai currency. Lol!

Various JLA members wore the Metal Men as armour in the 'Justice' limited series, but I'm not sure what the pairings were (apart from, presumably, Wonder Woman & Tina)...
@Simreeve: never thought I'd be jealous of a platinum robot.
ReplyDelete;-)
...but where is Richie Rich???
ReplyDelete...and Jack Benny???
ReplyDelete@Jack-El: They're attending the Arthur Murray School of Dance...taking "vaults" lessons (lol!).
