I liked watching reruns of I Dream of Jeannue! when I was a kid. The comedy was corny in a Gilligan's Island kind of way but the main character had super powers, something that always interested me. Plus Barbara Eden was easy on the eyes!

ReplyDeleteI'm old enough to have watched I Dream of Jeannie during the original broadcasts. I enjoyed the "fish out of water" aspect of the show, with Jeannie misunderstanding much of (then) modern American culture, which of course led to hijinks that her magic only intensified. Of course she got used to it over time, so the comedy moved on to others' reactions to her, with similarly skewed results.
ReplyDeleteAs to Johnny, it's nice to see him on his second solo outing on this blog in a year, especially considering his only other one was way back in 2014. He's my favorite Golden Age JSAer, being that rare superhero who does not wear a fancy costume or use a code-name.
It's a nice combo here, with the names Johnny and Jeannie. I'd like to see them together again if possible.
My favorite episode? Part Three of "Genie, Genie, Who's Got The Genie?" (featuring Barabara Eden as her evil brunette twin).
ReplyDeleteIn costume forms, Sailor Moon makes a better bishoujo (chick), (also is Japanese), but Jeannie can fit into a tiny (ball), like pokemon (also FO's Fairy Idol's Norm the genie).
ReplyDeleteNitpicking: Barbera Eden's navel is supposed to be covered up by her costume. It was a network/FCC thing that she couldn't show her navel.
ReplyDeleteJohnny Thunder did not need a code name due to his name. If it had been something else especially with a Thunderbolt he would have had one.

ReplyDeleteThe old episodes are fun to watch. I like to imagine the Air Force was doing covert LSD experiments on its pilots a la the CIA of the same era. Jeannie my eye! Those guys were tripping balls!
