I'm not sure what to make of plans for a new Fantastic Four movie told from the point of view of Franklin and Valeria Richards. I can understand the need for a fresh take after the previous cinematic attempts, but is that what fans really want to see? Rumors of a solo Doctor Doom origin film are equally head scratching. If they really don't know what to do with the materiel, I wish they would just relinquish control.
It was about time that the FF try and retake the Baxter Building. The Syndicate took it over back in STF #1851...
It's especially baffling that even _after_ the success of the Iron Man movies, they wouldn't just let Doctor Doom be Doctor Doom in the 2015 film. They consistently seem to lack all confidence in the source material.

ReplyDeleteYou're looking at the CSA of the Antimatter Earth, post 'Syndicate Rules'. The same team redesigned by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, altered due to the events of 'JLA/Avengers', resulting in their blonde Kyle Rayner counterpart being replaced by a John Stewart double.

ReplyDeleteThe only way I'd be legit interested in that Doom solo movie is if, the guy from Cannibal and the Doctor Strange movie, Mads Mikkelsen, plays Doom.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise I whole-heartedly agree with the sentiment that the movie rights to the FF should revert back to Disney/Marvel. At least THEY would know how to give us a decent FF movie, let alone the interaction with the MCU.
Ugh. Anything featuring Valeria Richards immediately turns me off. One small child was enough. A super-genius 2nd child ruins it for me. Chris Claremont and his plague of 'future children of current heroes' is a trope I've never enjoyed.

ReplyDeleteMarvel choose to farm out rights to X-Men, Fantastic Four and Spider-Man when they had cash flow issues and just because they are in better situation right now does not mean the rights should revert back to Marvel unless they are willing to pay for it and based on how profitable rest of movies are for them pay a LOT!

ReplyDeleteAs for the films. FOX knows that they have something of value. They are gambling that enough people will be at least curious about Victor Von Doom. and maybe Franklin and Valeria. I would argue that the Doom announcement prompted The Joker announcement.
I have more faith in the Doom movie since Noah Hawley is involved. Currently, anyway.
