As a kid, I thought that Rima was a much popular character than she was, mainly because of her appearances on The Super Friends. I had a few of her comics as well - and later I found out that other than that short-lived title, she didn't appear much at all. At any rate, I still fondly remember those tales, mainly due to the amazing artwork of Joe Kubert and Nestor Redondo.
Rima is actually from a novel, Green Mansions, published in 1904 (pre-dating Tarzan) so she definitely has staying power if not a household name.

If by staying power you mean used 3 times in 100 years...
DeleteThere was a version of her in the 'First Wave' miniseries, too.
ReplyDeletePossible off-the-wall cover ideas:
ReplyDeleteRima, Shanna, et al with the new city-girl Phantom, showing her the jungle ropes.
Spectre (the mean version) holding auditions for an assistant in the MU, trying to decide between Punisher and Deadpool (kill rates vs creative punishments, terror factor, etc.)
ReplyDeleteNice job with this cover Ross, I love it when things like this come together. ;)
Based on the way Rima's posing, it almost looks like Tarzan is the one about to be abducted. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'm still hoping for a Keaton homage of Batman vs Vulture!
ReplyDeleteIt's a pity there isn't more decent Fantoma art - a Tarzan/Fantomah crossover would be both logical and cool.
ReplyDeleteI always wondered why Jane let Tarzan out at night what with all those scantily-clad Jungle Girls swinging out there ...

ReplyDeleteIn the movie version of Green Mansions (1959), Rima was played by Audrey Hepburn.
