After my team covers featuring duck defenders, canine heroes and cat cops, I got some requests for a group of superhero mice as well. There were actually a lot to choose from There seem to be more mouse heroes out there than any other type of animal. Maybe it's the juxtaposition between such small fragile creatures and a larger than life alter ego that makes it such an appealing concept for creators.
Love this cover and this team...
ReplyDeleteYou team covers are my very favorite...
I have thought of many of my own and gathered pictures on my phone to assemble my teams, such as...
a group of various Frankenstein-like monsters from comics... or one of my favorites that I put together The Leauge of Extraordinary Gentlemen's Gentlemen (all comic book butlers including Alfred, Jarvis, Cadbury, Lurch, Kato and Duckworth).
I think a team-up(?) could also be done with rabbits, horses, insects, and maybe some more.
ReplyDeleteExamples are: Atom Ant, Fearless Fly, Video Victor (a videogame magazine character); Power Ponies, Quick Draw McGraw, Baba Looey, Thirty/Thirty from Bravestarr,Comet the superhorse; Captain Carrot, Super-Rabbit (from a Bugs Bunny short), Hoppy the Marvel Bunny, Crusader Rabbit, Usagi Yojimbo, Bionic Bunny: and maybe others.
ReplyDelete...also in my League of Extraordinary Gentlemen's Gentlemen I included Neuman from Tom Strong... Smithers the Lodge's Butler in the Archie comics and from Tintin Captain Haddock's Butler Nestor.
ReplyDeleteRoss keep doing what you're doing. Some of us live vicariously through your wonderful offerings. Thank you.
hmmm....???? kato a butler.....i never thought of kato as a butler.......lol
ReplyDeletewonder why there was never a marvel mouse(shazam)....or a marvel mouse(marvel comics).....lol
ReplyDeleteRe: Marvel Mouse -- Shazam's lawyers had enough problems with the lawsuit over The Big Red Cheese just being a ripoff of the The Big Blue Boy Scout. Having a character that ripped off Mighty Mouse (who wears Supe's undies too) would have been the last straw!
ReplyDeleteKato was his butler as his civilian guide certainly and they used same name which was very odd. I like the idea of a team of butlers bailing out heroes when captured.
ReplyDeleteYou're most brilliant FTA cover, yet, Ross! :-)
ReplyDeleteHow about Courageous Cat meeting Underdog, next? You could call it...
"Animal World's Finest."
Kato was technically Britt Reid's valet. (I'm not really sure what the distinction is between a valet and a butler.)
ReplyDeleteA butler is normally in charge of the entire household and the foreman among the servants. Alfred does it all, but it wouldn't be that unusual for the Waynes to have also had one or more of : a cook, a maid for the dusting & cleaning, a seamstress / laundry person, a gardener, maybe a nanny, as well as personal maids and valets for Mrs. and Mr. Wayne. A valet would be probably be called a 'personal assistant' these days.
ReplyDeleteYou couldn't slip a "Mickey" into this bunch? Lol!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, though: I take it "Saxon" is that Reepicheep look-alike at top left. Is he originally from some Silver Age European comic (like the UK's "2000 AD")?
To Anonymous(e) above...
ReplyDeleteSaxon is from Mouse Guard.
So, these guys would be facing off against 'Pinky & The Brain'?
ReplyDelete@Tim - Ha. Good one.
ReplyDeleteI could see Batmouse swinging from the roof below Mighty Mouse.
ReplyDeleteMinnie Mouse would've given you a female presence which many of your team creations seem to be in short supply of.
I can't think of any other missing mouse characters you didn't include. :)
@ Anonymous above: Ross was probably afraid it would look like a commercial for WDW. As in; "Mice Squad! You just finished licking the Cat Precinct at softball. Where are you going, next?"
ReplyDelete"WE'RE GOING To DISNEY WORLD!"
I loved this when it was first posted, but didn't post a comment because I couldn't think of anything specific to say. But now I do: I keep scrolling down to it because looking at it is so much fun. I think it also would be fun to see how the dynamic of these heroes would work -- and I like Tim's idea of facing them off against Pinky and the Brain (though they may limit their actions to damage control, given the Brain's habit of self-sabotage).
ReplyDeleteI'd also love to see jack-el's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen's Gentlemen actually done on this blog.
Irrelevant to the above, I just watched Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog for the first time, and it occurs to me that Dr. Horrible himself could get into a disagreement with Gru (from the Despicable Me movies) over who has the better Freeze Ray. Or, he could compete with the Brain over world conquest, or just membership in the Evil League of Evil.
He isn't as well known these days for some reason, but I'd have liked to have seen Super Mouse.

JimB.
Speedy Gonzalez!
ReplyDelete@Tim You stole my joke. These guys need to come back and they need to fight the brain on the cover.
