Are all Human Torches off-limits for Marvel to use in their movies, or is it just Johnny Storm? We see a Jim Hammond-type robot at the World's Fair in
Captain America: The First Avenger after all. I always kind of preferred the original Torch anyway. I'd love to see him in full blazing action, maybe in an untold adventure from Cap's WWII years.
Not just the original Human Torch, I would love to see the Invaders make it to the big screen.
ReplyDeleteI've often thought a early Captain America movie with elements from the Invaders comics or other Golden Age heroes and villains would great. With today's special effects, it would easily translate onto film. It's on my movie wish list.
ReplyDeleteOrdinaryguy2
Would be great for it would allow them to add Namor as well but no way will Marvel think of retro movie or one with flashbacks which is a pity. I liked the Invaders series which combined past and future.
ReplyDeleteActually, Marvel is doing another film set in the past, which is Captain Marvel as it's been confirmed that it will be set in the Nineties.
DeleteThis is a pretty nifty idea. Make it a double story: a modern one with fellow Avengers, interspersed with World War II flashbacks with the Invaders. It could make for a very gripping film!
ReplyDeleteCap has a videogame on WII? First I've heard of it. ;-)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, though: you're right. Now, that Lucasfilm is owned by Marve/Disney, there's no legitimate reason NOT to include the Golden Age Torch in their flicks! Maybe by having Jim Hammond accompanying Indiana Jones after some ancient artifact connected with fire. Like maybe, say, the hammer and anvil of Vulcan? Mussolini's Fascists could be after ancient Roman stuff the same way Hitler was obsessed with anything Norse!
And the last half-way decent attempt to use the Fascists as the Bad Guys in a WWII Cap-movie was back in the 1980's. The one featuring Ronny Cox as the POTUS.
Great cover Ross. I agree with your opinion on the original HUMAN TORCH being the best. I would love to see you do a cover with him and the original HUMAN BOMB on some sort of behind-the-lines mission in ww2.
ReplyDeleteI confess that this is a team up that I never had though of and probably would not have. Yet, upon seeing it, I sensed the light bulb moment in my mind. It just makes sense. I like this story.
ReplyDeleteNow that I have seen this, I could imagine WWII Cap (and maybe even Bucky) teaming up with Indy and see the Red Skull involved in it somehow.
I find it highly appropriate that the issue number for this one is 1936 - the year in which "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" takes place. (I'm probably the only person who would seize on something like that... oh, well.)
ReplyDeleteJohn, there's even more subtlety there if you look
ReplyDelete1936 was the first appearance of the Phantom. And look at all those skulls on this cover.
I second Wolfhammer's suggestion. The Human Torch and the Human Bomb? The names practically scream for a team-up. All you'd need to make it perfect would be the Human Fuse!
ReplyDeleteAnd John: Good eye! It'd be interesting to see if any other "issue number as the year" synchronicity happens over the next 80 issues or so. No doubt this was accidental, as will anything super-cool with #1961 (year of my birth), but we can see what Ross and Fate come up with.
Now the Phantom and Indiana Jones makes complete senses period wise.
ReplyDeleteI can just see the caption for Wolfhammer's suggestion:Have the Bomb and the Torch met their Match?
ReplyDeleteThey've already shown Jim Hammond briefly in some sort of cryogenic chamber. It's time for him to make an official appearance in the MCU. He would set the screen alight.
