Machine Man Vs. Plastic Man

One is a man that behaves like a cartoon and the other is a machine that acts like a man, definitely an odd couple, but I think it would be a kick to see them interacting with one another.  I was interested to see Plastic Man featured as an upcoming member in promotional art for a new Outsiders series that someone snapped at Comicon.  Not only because he will be teammates with the similarly powered Metamorpho, but because he was sporting a new costume.  I didn't know he could do that, he's had the same look for decades.

  1. I remember seeing a record once with Plastic Man and Metamorpho pictured on the back. I recently listed to it on YouTube and it was very cheesy.

I don't see where you have used Felix the Cat or Betty Boop. I know they are best known as cartoon characters, but both have had many comic books through the years. It would be fun to see Felix with Mickey Mouse considering that Walt Disney clearly based both Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Mickey Mouse on Felix the Cat. The designs are so close I am surprised there wasn't a lawsuit.

It would be fun to see Betty Boop with Harley Quinn. It seems like those two would make an interesting pair.

  2. Hopefully Marvel Studios will consider making a Machine Man movie. They have proven that they can take even lesser properties like Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant Man and make successful movies. Since they have adapted most of their A list characters I could see them digging into lesser known properties like Darkhawk, Ka-Zar, Power Pack (hopefully animated), Squadron Supreme, Howling Commandos (monster version from the cartoons), and Captain Universe. I could even see them using the New Universe comics (Starbrand, Nughtmask, Merc, DP7, etc) for a new line of interconnected Netflix shows.

  4. We know a bit more about the new "Outsiders" now. Plastic Man and Metamorpho are joining forces with Mr. Terrific and a 21st century Phantom Girl to form a team called The Terrifics. It's a rather bold offering from DC and their new Dark Matter imprint - just imagine a team made up of a monstrous-looking strongman, a ghostlike girl, a stretchy guy, and a super-genius whose name begins with Mister and even names the team after his last name. No flame-powered beings just yet, but hey, if Marvel isn't going to used the Fantastic Four, why let it go to waste?

  6. I'm sure Metamorpho is able to "flame on" considering that he can transform into many substances.

  7. I like this team-up. The only thing that baffles me is why they are "versus" one another.

As for the The Terrifics, I might have to check them out....

  8. Metamorpho can transform himself into either sodium or potassium. Both are spontaneously flammable in contact with air - so there you have it. Flame on!

  9. I'm not crazy about Plas' new color scheme, but I like the fact that he's smiling in the picture. He's not someone you want to make all grim'n'gritty.

  10. Felix the Cat? Who is he? Has he ever appeared in a comic book?

  11. Well, given that he can assume almost any shape he wants, a slightly altered red costume isn't that far-fetched.

  12. @ Cary: I think you're right (for once).

  13. Todd, Felix was probably the first cartoon movie star. He was in comics as early as the 1920s.

  14. He would reach into his bag of tricks like Batman to his utility belt or Black Canary to her canary amulet.

  15. I think Todd knows exactly who Felix the Cat is, but I digress.

  16. Now I'm feeling really confused.

  17. PAD? But I Digress? Did Peter David just make a comment on my blog?

  18. @Todd and Anon #2: actually, the first animated cartoon star in movies was Gertie the Dinosaur.
