Duck Avenger Vs. Captain Carrot

Captain Carrot was another character that I hoped would show up on Batman : The Brave and the Bold that we never got to see.  Batman visited some offbeat worlds on that show so why not Earth-C to encounter The Zoo Crew?  They never showed up on any of DC's animated shorts, either.  Maybe, like Young Justice, one of those cartoons will return one of these days and we will get another chance..

  1. I love fun comics...and yet, I can not call myself a comic book fan. I let Captain Carrot get by without reading more than the insert issue. Was it with Superman or Changeling...?

Cool team-up! Maybe a sequel with Darkwing Duck? For a World's Funniest?

    1. Superman for the insert issue. Changeling at the end of The Run.

  2. Captain Carrot is a favorite. Always good to see him in action. I had Scott Shaw! do this for me (homage to the cover to my first ever comic): http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1298169

The insert issue & #1 of the regular series had Superman ("Supermax?" Supersam?" CC couldn't get it right...); the final issue of the regular series [#20] had Changeling.

  4. I remember reading Super Goof comics when I was a boy--in which Goofy got super-powers from "super goobers", rather like Popeye getting powers from spinach--but I never knew Donald had acted as a costumed hero as well.

  5. Hey, who knows? Maybe someone will decide to just give the Zoo Crew their own cartoon.

Kid C's mention of Super Goof and Popeye got me to thinking: Hourman, Roger Ramjet, and various others get their powers from ingesting something. Maybe some of them could form a group: Power Pill Poppers Anonymous! ("Hi, I'm Rex and I'm a power pill popper." "Hi, Rex.")

  6. I really like the addition of Mojo Jojo to this cover. That's like an extra bonus to an already awesome team-up.

  7. Interesting idea, Bob. There was also TV's Mr. Terrific (who swallowed a jawbreaker-sized power pill) and Captain Nice (who drank a super-formula), Elongated Man (who drank Gingold) and Elastic Lad (who drank Prof. Potter's elastic serum), Super Chicken (who swallowed a special "super-sauce"), Eighth Man (who took a drag on an atomic power cell disguised as a cigarette), and don't forget Captain Carrot himself (who ate irradiated "cosmic carrots").

And readers of George R.R. Martin's Wild Cards shared universe will remember Cap'n Trips, who had six different superpowered identities he could transform into by taking different combinations of drugs!

  8. @Air Dave: the original debut issue had Superman aiding the Zoo Crew against Starro the Conqueror. Beast Boy guest-starred about half a dozen issues in, when he aided them against Gorilla Grodd.*

@Ross: maybe Capt. Carrot never made animated appearances because DC preferred to let the public think he was still the cryogenic prisoner of The Keeper (a Thunderbunny/Golden man foe).

*Alongside "Introducing...Little Cheese!" The rodent version of Ray Palmer.

  9. Bob and Bob, don't forget the magic potion used in a small Gaullish village that we know so well.

  10. The oblique mention of Asterix gives me an idea--how about Asterix and, or versus, Conan?

I like the idea for the contrast between the formidable, but light-hearted, Gaul and the grim Cimmerian.

  11. And don;t forget Underdog, with his "Underdog super energy pill".

  12. @ Scott: I'd like to see Underdog vs. Krypto.

  13. Seeing this team-up made me think of another possible offbeat combination.

How about having the Zoo Crew's Duck member 'Rubberduck', whose name was also a slightly famous CB radio "handle", meet one or both of Marvel's trucker heroes from the period, U.S.1 and Razorback (with the latter's presence possibly being balanced by the addition of Rubberduck's team-mate Pig Iron to the mix, as well...)?

  14. Oh, for that matter I'd like to see Yankee Poodle join up with Captain America!

  15. Or Alley Kat Abra competing with Zatanna and Catwoman for the affections of...COURAGEOUS CAT!*

*Ross could do it as a spoof of/homage to that classic Silver Age B&B cover with Wonder Woman and Batgirl.

  16. @ Anon: Zatanna would more likely be fighting with Millie Lagomorph (or whatever her surname was) over the affections of Hoppy the Marvel Bunny. I mean, he and the rest of Bunnyland do exist in a pocket dimension accessible only via a magician's top hat!
