Spider-Girl and Robin

It's kind of sad to see how Tim Drake has been tossed aside in favor of Damian Wayne after all the work that went into developing his character.  After being a very popular Robin for years, having his own title and appearing in other media, now he seems to be a hero without a home.  DC has tried using him as a member of the Teen Titans, Red Robin, even a new Batman Beyond.  I am hoping that he can maintain a lasting role in the DCU going forward.

The Truants first appeared in STF #1220...

  1. From what I've heard of him, Damian Wayne seems to be a throwback to Jason Todd. I'll just stick with my back issues with Dick Grayson in Titans and Tim Drake in Robin and Young Justice. Chuck Dixon and Peter David did some pretty decent work with Tim.

    1. You're not the only one who feels that way. Damian's role as an antihero Robin is already redunant since Jason served that role prior to his fatal clubbing from the Joker and later resurrection.

  3. Great team-up.
Suggested sequel: Spidergirl and Robin (Stephanie)...

Does anybody else here remember the brief romance between Robin (Tim) and Jubilee?

  4. Is that why you're depicting him as having replaced Tim Drake as the resident Robin of the Truants? Kind of a half-serious tongue poke of indignation at DC/Time-Warner?

  5. A Robin (Tim) and Jubilee cover continuing their romance would be great.

  6. Another thing (out of a zillion) I don't like about the New52/Rebirth universe is that in the flashbacks both Dick and Jason wore the long-pants and black & yellow cape version of the Robin costume, which was Tim's design, and much cleaner than the Red Robin version.

  7. Not sure what you mean Cary, that's Tim Drake on both covers.

  8. @ Ross: the one on this cover looks a lot more pint-sized. Hence, the not-unreasonable assumption that it was Damian rather than Tim. Especially, as the latter is _not_ toting his bojitsu staff. I know it telescopes open and closed! But, it still looks like the staff is completely absent from his utility belt. So, again; not an unreasonable assumption to make.

  10. Ross, this is an inspired pairing and an excellent execution!

Regarding Robins... MY favorite is and always will be "the sensational character find of 1940"--the original and best Robin, Dick Grayson....

Jason Todd didn't go off the rails until Max Allan Collins retconned him into a former street thug. Still, I HATED the whole phone in "Does Robin live or does he die?" gimmick. If the then current Robin was unpopular, the solution should have been for them to write themselves out of the problem they created.

I also liked Tim Drake as Robin and Stephanie Brown as well (although it was clear that she was never intended as more than a short term replacement). As far as Damian, I checked out shortly after the NEW 52 began so I really couldn't say....

Finally, I too would love to see an update on the Robin-Jubilee romance on this site.
