After the critical misfires of
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and
Suicide Squad, a lot is riding on the success of
Wonder Woman. Lets hope that director Patty Jenkins finds the right mix of action, humor, heart and spectacle that the character deserves and can set the DCEU back on the proper track. I liked Jenkins's work on
Breaking Bad, but that is such a different property than Wonder Woman, I remain cautiously optimistic.
MONSTER is such a great movie that I'm always optimistic about everything Patty Jenkins does. I'm cautious, too, because movie-making is such a complex business that no one person's talent can guarantee an artistic success, but definitely optimistic.
ReplyDeleteI too am cautiously optimistic as well.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least SUICIDE SQUAD took home the Oscar for Best Make-up Job.
ReplyDeleteI just want the depressing tone to these films to stop. Even if that means abandoning their DCU ambitions. I like what is being put on TV very much and would rather they fire all the movie folk and replace them with the TV staff. That would bring the fun to the big screen.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, Dave. The last two episodes of "The Flash" have made SUICIDE SQUAD and BVS:DOJ look positively cheerful by comparison!*
ReplyDelete* Which is not necessarily a good thing.
I actually rather liked both SS and BVS, despite some clear problems with each (the darker tone worked OK for the former; not so much with the latter, though thing became more "four-color" when Bats finally decided to help Supes).
ReplyDeleteEven so, the WW movie looks like it has a gritty-but-light tone, somewhat like a season of Xena. I'm looking forward to it.
I've got my hopes up for WW as well. BVS wasn't the bad movie many make it out to be. Not Marvel great - but not bad either. Speaking of Wonder Woman - how about WW vs A-ko Magami?
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the post title, I thought we'd see the Scarlet Witch in the Purple Ray

ReplyDeleteLooks more like Chthon in the Scarlet Witch.
Look at that expression on Wonder Woman's face! Captions contest?
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody else here remember when Power Man & Iron Fist ran their 'Heroes for Hire' business from an office over the foyer to a cinema, and when Wanda came there anonymously to hire them for a job there were posters in that foyer advertising [old] films called 'The Scarlet Avenger' & 'The Witch of the West'?
ReplyDeleteIsn't A-ko supposed to be the daughter of WW and Supes?
ReplyDelete@MH: Adopted daughter, most likely. I mean, come on. A redheaded daughter born to two superheroes with raven-black hair?! I'm thinking her birth-parents were Lobo and Maxima!
