Captain America and General Glory

General Glory was a Captain America analogue that appeared on the pages of Justice League in the 90's.  While he could have been simply a one note parody character, I likes the stories that were told with him and his relationship with Guy Gardner.  I don't think he made is past the last few reboots though.

  1. Looks pretty good, even though it's Cap teaming up with a analogue of him.

  2. General Glory meets Major Glory (of Dexter's Lab fame) and Glory (from Image). Perhaps they could battle Glorian, the old FF villain.

  3. It's probably best that he wasn't rebooted. He'd probably have gotten revamped as a grimmer and grittier character. For example: Major Victory, from the Force of July, given a promotion.

  5. "Lady Liberty, I cry to thee,
For the home of the brave
And the land of the free!"

This is brilliant! The two of them make such a natural team.
You've produced yet another cover for a story that I'd LOVE to read...

  6. I'd never seen or heard of General Glory before now, but in the 80s one of my Champions characters was a flag-suit named Captain Glory, with a surprisingly similar costume -- red and white striped tights, stars on the boots, gloves, and forehead, etc. Cap's upper body was red with a blue stripe down the middle, and all of his stars were white, but otherwise I couldn't tell the difference.

On topic for the cover, Ross, this is yet another shining one.

  7. They apparently shop at the same bootmaker.
And I'm always puzzled when Cap is shown with a belt having loads of pouches. Does anyone know what he keeps in them? Ammo, perhaps -- but he rarely packs a gun any more. Caparangs and a Caprope, perhaps? Has he ever been shown to remove anything from them?

  8. No0 coincidence that this is post 1776, I assume.

  9. Even though I am only vaguely aware of who General Glory is, I think this is an awesome cover, Ross. It occurs to me that you could make an entire team of various Cap analogues.

And while the Declaration of Independence is housed in the Smithsonian on Earth-STFP, on our Earth it's housed in the National Archives. Sorry to be "that guy".

  10. Anonymous thinks it's a good thing that General Glory wasn't rebooted, but within the JLA comics he did get rebooted several times. He was a meta joke in that comic books about him existed in the DCU, which usually read as Captain America homages, but the latter day books were parodies of The Dark Knight Returns and typical 90s Rob Liefield Image stuff.

  11. Outstanding cover, and I love the use of General Glory...!

  12. To my knowledge, Ivan, the General was rebooted only once. The transformative power being passed to some vengeance-seeking beat cop. And the only good thing about that ret-con is that it _didn't_ get passed to Major Victory of the Force of July.

  13. How about Mr. U.S., from Image's Big Bang #8? Six different versions, from the Golden Age to the Image Years! http://bigbangcomics.com/products-page/comic-books/big-bang-comics-8/

  14. @BW: a little too close to Amalgam Comics' Super Soldier, for Ross' comfort, I would say.
