Ben Affleck's solo Batman movie will start filming next year, and little is known about the plot other than that it will feature Deathstroke. I am trying to think of comic stories that featured the two up against each other, but other than a few guest appearances, there isn't a whole lot. I am assuming, then, that we will see a completely original tale. I have liked Affleck's previous scripts, so I am optimistic that we will see a bat-flick unlike any other.
There is a recent issue of Deathstroke (I believe #4) in which the two meet and "fight" without actually throwing a punch. The whole thing plays out along the lines of "he thinks I'm going to do this, so I'll do that, but he'll know I'll change my plan so he'll do this instead, therefore I should do that". Christopher Priest did a great job of showcasing the strategic aspect of the two characters. I very much recommend it, if you have yet to read it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that was great. Priest is writing Slade as a master of manipulation. I love it! Reminds me of how he was back in the 90s.
DeleteI don't read too many current comics but that sounds pretty cool, I'll have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteUntil recently Deathstroke was more a Teen Titans villain, so if they have Dick Grayson in the Batman film, that would make a much stronger Deathstroke appearance, in my opinion. Or maybe they could play up the anti-hero aspect and have Batman and Deathstroke reluctantly team up at first. Then as Slade usually does, he double crosses Batman to achieve his own ends.

ReplyDeleteNice, even if initially I did think that the image of Deathstroke shown here was actually the Red Hood instead...

Was the promise that's mentioned in this picture made ["offstage"] during the 1980s' official X-Men/Teen Titans crossover?
Here's how I would write the script for "Batman v. Deathstroke." The action begins on Marvel Earth-616, where Daredevil (Affleck) is battling Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) on an office building rooftop! Suddenly, an interdimensional portal opens in mid-air and through it comes...Green Lantern (also Reynolds).
ReplyDeleteThe latter is wounded from having been assaulted by Darkseid's para-demons. So, until he recovers, he must temporarily pass the power ring to someone else without fear. But, while DD is certainly fearless, Deadpool is ironically also worthy because he's too crazy to be scared! Unfortunately, the ring chooses the latter after he knocks out the highly distracted former.
Greenpool subsequently comes to New DC Earth-1 where he teams up with Batman to keep Deathstroke--and his Intergang employers--out of Gotham City.
Merry Christmas, Ross. :-)
Simreeve: Yes, that's what I had in mind.
ReplyDeleteSo... it'll be a batflick written by, directed by, and staring Batfleck.
