Solomon Grundy Vs. Power Man

I breezed through Netflix' Luke Cage in a few days and found it to be another success for the network.  I thought that Mike Colter did a fantastic job in the title role, presenting a character that was heroic for all the right reasons and I was really rooting for him.  The villains and supporting cast were great as well - a standout for me was Misty Knight, I definitely want to see more of her and if her injured arm leads to any enhancements down the line.  I got a big kick out of all the easter eggs sprinkled around, from the Power Man costume, to bringing in Turk, to "did I break your concentration?", good stuff.  OK, Netflix - bring on Iron Fist!

  1. I figured you used Solomon Grundy because he got mentioned in the new Ben Affleck movie The Accountant. LOL!

  2. How cool is it to see all the ingredients come together in the right way, huh? Take that Network Television! Maybe now, all of the other super-hero shows on network television will be given a little more room to really shine. Not that they are not good, but network television hasn't exactly been kind to capes.

Maybe, and I'm throwing this out there, Netflix is the right place for The Fantastic Four? Maybe all that rich history and anthology approach might work better as a series, rather than a two-hour movie?

  3. Did I miss the most obvious team-up / battle? The Hulk verses Solomon Grundy?

  4. Yes, They met and battled Green Arrow and Hawkeye.

  5. I saw that, but it was more of a team-up between them. What I want to see is a Big Battle cover between them.

  6. The Silver Age Solomon Grundy once went toe-to-toe with the Superman of Earth-1...who lost. It took the combined might of the JLA _and_ JSA to (ahem!) "cage" him back up. I therefore wouldn't hold out much hope for Luke getting the better of this modern version, one-on-one.

    Just saying!

  7. I'd take "Grundy" in this matchup.

    "Grundy Smash" !

  8. Considering how wildly variable the strength levels of these two characters have been portrayed, this would be an interesting battle.

Yeah, the Luke Cage Netflix series was amazing. I think it's my favorite of the three series so far, and that's saying a lot. It's interesting, considering the kind of "updated, more thoughtful blaxploitation" feel of the series (bringing the character back to a more modern version of his roots, in a way), that it actually seemed less gratuitously violent that the other two series (it was definitely violent, but still...), and the strong language seemed less forced than in Jessica Jones.
