One Marvel property that I never hear mentioned for live action is Alpha Flight. I'm not even sure who holds the rights - I guess they began as an X-Men spinoff, which would put them under 20th Century Fox' control? I love the original line up and I think they would make for a fun action packed film. Let's hope that Canada's premier super-team gets its due.
That looks like a World's Finest-era Shazam. I've only recently rediscovered this run and am enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteNo, its from the cover of Legends #1. Mr. Mind is WF-era though.
ReplyDeleteLet me guess: the cliff-hanger involves Hatemonger taking off his hood and revealing himself to be the ever-vengeful...Super Skrull!!!*
ReplyDelete*I'd love to see how the combined powers of the FF would affect the Big Red Cheese.
I'd love to see a live-action Alpha Flight as well. I think that Martin Klebba (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Cape), despite his age, would be absolutely awesome as Puck.
ReplyDeleteAnd this here is a very well-done cover, Ross. While the foreground and background do look like separate works, each looks like a unit piece -- I recognize John Byrne's hand on AF, and someone else clearly drew Cap, but the two work together. Likewise Mr. Mind looks like he was drawn to sit on the Hate-Monger's shoulder. Nicely done.
Thanks! Again, It's a Byrne Captain Marvel from the cover of Legends #1
ReplyDeleteWell, that would explain why he looks to fit with Alpha Flight, then.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like an all-Byrne cover and it works beautifully. IIRC Cap may be form the cover of an issue of Legends.
ReplyDeleteI loved the initial line-up of Alpha Flight, but didn't care for the series as much as I would have liked. I think it was Byrne's experimenting with a MISSION: Impossible format that messed it up for me. We saw a lot of the individual characters, but not as much of the whole team.
It looks like the team has an uphill battle here, IMO. Captain Marvel is too powerful for any of them to match and even as a team they'll need a good plan. If they can pin him in and Shaman can hit him with magic lightning, maybe.
Great cover!
Mr. Mind and the (original) Hate Monger are old allies. I believe Hitler was one of the original members of the Monster Society of Evil.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Matthew! The foreground characters are Byrne, but the BG characters are by Don Newton and Francesco Francavilla.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I can add to all these accolades is: two thumbs' up.
ReplyDelete:-)
The face on that Captain Marvel looks like a Marshall Rogers type of hero face.
ReplyDeleteBut I see now someone says it's a Byrne Cap.
ReplyDeleteHey, if Ross says it's a Byrne Cap, it's a Byrne Cap.
ReplyDelete(...though saying that out loud makes me want to invest in a fireproof toupee.)
Everything that Matthew Baugh said....
ReplyDeleteLove to see a live-action Alpha Flight if, for nothing else, a Quicksilver/Northstar and Aurora fight.
ReplyDeleteImagine, he goes into that "high speed, everything else is still/slow motion" thing from the last two movies, and suddenly, those two start moving, maybe even faster than him.

Just imagine if the companies could get together for a movie of the 'JLA/Avengers' crossover!
Too big an if at this point. :-(
